He is best known for his close-up photographs of plants and living things published in 1929 as 'Urformen der Kunst'. He was inspired as was his father by nature and the ways in which plants grow. II, gutter margin of front-endpaper to Vol. I repaired with archival paper, intermittent foxing and spotting, particularly heavy to the rear of vol. II, marbled edges with matching marbled endpapers, nineteenth-century half hard grained brown morocco, rubbed, faint library number at base of spine. Frederick Traugott Pursh (1774-120) spent 12 years in the United States making friends with the most prolific botanists of the age, researching at their herbariums, and travelling by foot down the east coast and across the northern latitudes of the continent. He made acquaintance of Captain Meriwether Lewis and accepted the assignment of cataloguing the plants collected by the Corps of Discovery Expedition. He then returned to London to publish this major contribution to North American botany. "Among the numerous useful and interesting objects of natural history discovered on the vast extent of the New Continent, none claim our attention in a higher degree than the vegetable productions of North America." Legatura editoriale in pieena tela decorata. Qualche segno d'uso esterno ed una cerniera internamente allentata, peraltro esemplare pulito e molto ben conservato. Opera munita di un apparato iconografico di grande bellezza con la raffigurazione di tutti i tipi di frutta.
Cm. 15,5, pp. (16) 228 (4). Bell'antiporta illustrata e 11 tavole incise in rame e ripiegate fuori testo. Legatura strettamente coeva in piena pergamena semirigida con unghie e titoli manoscritti al dorso. Esemplare genuino e ben conservato. Prima edizione italiana di quest'interessante trattato munito di un ricco apparato iconografico.
