Ce livre est son travail le plus important. C'est un ouvrage fondamental sur les insectes ampélophages: le phytoptus, la cécidomie, la cochenille, le phylloxera, les pucerons, la grisette, la pyrale, la cochylis, les termites, criquets, altises et autres charançons...pour chaque parasite, il fait une description entomologique et biologique, donne l'historique de la maladie qu'il propage et indique les moyens pour lutter, prévenir ou guérir. Tightly bound complete copy.This is the final and best edition of Hofmann's work "Die Grossschmetterlinge Europas", with all the fine coloured lithographed plates, including the important fourth volume of the "Raupen" or caterpillars (with 60 plates), reworked by Arnold Spuler, and its "Nachtrag" (with another 10 plates). These caterpillar parts are often lacking. The various families were treated by several experts, e.g. Geometridae by H. Rebel, and Tortricidae by J. von Kernel.
