Loew published two series of articles on Diptera in his school programs, which were also reprinted separately. These are a mix of reprints (parts 2-4, 6 & 8)and school programs (5 & 7). This series went to 8 parts (part 1 published in 1853 is not present in our offer). Rare.

The partly colour-printed (two or three colours) plates are wonderfully executed and have great detail.

Each genus is represented by a figured species and the etymology of the zoological names is explained. The first volume provides a general introduction to insects and the Coleoptera. The second includes the Orthoptera, Neuroptera, Hymenoptera, Hemiptera, Lepidoptera, Diptera and other insect orders. Very good condition for such a heavy volume, uncut, unopened. Il danese Jean-Chrétien Fabricius (1742-1807) è considerato il più celebre entomologo del XVIII secolo. “A l’age de vingt ans, il se rendit à Upsal pour suivre les cours de Linné.. Tous ses ouvrages sur l’entomologie, qui lui ont valu une reputation justement méritée, nous montres les préceptes, la méthode, et meme les formes de style de Linné.. nombreux sont aussi les ouvrages historiques sur le commerce, les finances, l’administration, la salubrité publique en Danemark et, en 1779 à Hamburg, il publia un livre sur la Norvège..”.
