Each offprint was indexed by Wallace with a typewritten white label attached to the lower left corner of the front board with the author title date and journal listed. The original index card collection for these offprints is not available here. Many of these offprints have the name stamp or signature of Herbert Wallace on the front wrapper or title page. Many offprints are inscribed to Wallace by the authors. Other offprints have the name stamp or signature of other notable researchers in the field. Postage will be extra. Various places, 1871-1959. Gilt titles on dark green morocco labels.This is the rare addition by Charles Aubé (1802-1869) to the magnum opus of Pierre François Marie Auguste Comte DeJean (1780-1845) on Coleoptera. DeJean's work consisted of five volumes, usually bound in six, as volume five was published in two large parts. On the spine, this part is, consequently numbered "VII". Provenance: small printed label on the spine foot "Bibliothek Georg Frey". Small stamp in the lower margin of the first blank and title; spine rubbed with the leather over the upper compartment perished, otherwise a good, complete copy. Library stamps on title-page, and first 15 pages bound in the wrong order, some scattered foxing, mainly in first and last few pages, else a good copy of this first edition of volume 2 (Volume 1-2 were reprinted in 1851).Johann Wilhelm Meigen (1764-1845) was a German entomologist specialized in Diptera, and is sometimes called the father of dipterology. In any case the above work is his magnum opus, his chief accomplishment. In all he described 3500 species (mainly Diptera).

Prima edizione di questa importante relazione di esplorazione africana di Michel Charles. L'autore uomo d'affari e militare coloniale francese, il 28 febbraio 1897, si recò a Gibuti, come secondo della missione comandata dal marchese de Bonchamps, il cui obiettivo era quello di unirsi alla missione Marchand a Fascioda. La missione arrivò a 150 km da Fascioda, ma dovette tornare indietro senza raggiungere il suo obiettivo. Il 3 Luglio 1898, Charles Michel rientrò in Francia e pubblicò la relazione della celebre esplorazione nella quale raccolse non solo le sue impressioni di viaggio ma anche interessantissime nozioni sui costumi, la flora e la fauna dei territori attraversati. Le tavole fuori testo illustrano campioni entomologici. Prima edizione in buone-ottime condizioni di conservazione. Very good copy.
