One inner joint strengthened with paper strip, ex libris on verso front cover, small paper label with number on lower end spine.This is a German translation of the De Geer's "Mémoires pour servir à l'histoire des Insectes", (1752-1778). A bound convolute of eight mostly rare papers including the Fragments Braconologiques I-III, VI-VII (lacks 4-5); Symbolae ad Cognitionem Braconidarum 1-3; Ichneumonidae genus Paniscus; Braconiden-Gattung Braunsia Kriechb. by Enderlein and Kieffer; Nouveaux Proctotrypides Exotiques. The Russian titles by Nikolaï Kokujew or Kokouyev are especially rare; they are partly from the famous Horae Societas Entomologicae Rossicae. Boards rubbed, book plate on front pastedown, locally a bit spotted, otherwise a good copy.

The first part is by Pierce alone, the second and third part (of our set) is by Pierce and Metcalfe, and the last part is by Pierce and Beirne. Some of the original parts (there was a reprint edition in the sixties/seventies) are quite scarce now.

Libray stamps on volumes 2-3, and some slight foxing on a few pages and plates. Spines somewhat rubbed at joints and outer ends spine, the atlas has one joint with some more wear.This is the final and best edition of Hofmann's work "Die Grossschmetterlinge Europas", with all the fine coloured lithographed plates, reworked by Arnold Spuler. The various families were treated by several experts, e.g. Geometridae by H. Rebel, and Tortricidae by J. von Kennel. This set is complete for the butterflies.
