Born in Wisconsin on January 1 1901 Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s and went on to be the head of the still photography department at Universal Pictures in 1935 where he worked well into the 1950s.<br /> <br /> Based on the 1934 comic-strip character created by Alex Raymond. The first screen adaptation of "Flash Gordon" presented as a serial film in 13 chapters and starring Buster Crabbe in the titular role battling to thwart the evil schemes of Emperor Ming the Merciless portrayed by Charles B. Middleton. Followed by two sequels also in serial form "Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars" 1938 and "Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe" 1940. Remade in 1980 as a superhero space opera film directed by Mike Hodges and starring Sam J. Jones and Melony Anderson.<br /> <br /> Shot on location in Bronson Canyon California. <br /> <br /> 8 x 10 inches mounted onto a 8.25 x 10.25 inch black art board. Comic Synopsis: Having acquired an Oan Power Ring the irate Galius Zed turns against his comrade Hal Jordan and decides to show him what a true ring-bearer can now accomplish. Hal has little chance against a foe armed with such a superior weapon but Galius Zed quickly learns that the ring taxes his own life energies draining him of power and vitality. A withering Zed collapses before Hal Jordan. Hal calls to mind how this whole business got started. It began with Green Lanterns Eddore and Kaylark. Both of them had come into conflict with a trio of space pirates called the Free Lancers. The Free Lancers showed them how their masters the Guardians of the Universe had crafted a ring that was not inhibited by materials colored yellow. This enraged Eddore and Kaylark and drove them to renounces the Guardians. Kaylark came into possession of her own Oan ring and returned to her home planet D'xe where she crowned herself Empress. Eddore acquired an Oan Power Ring as well and returned to his native world of Tront. With the power of the ring he forced hundreds of Trontians to fuse their essences with his own creating an over-sized being of great power. Hal Jordan came to Tront and fought against the Eddore/Trontian entity. Channeling all of his ring's energy into the being he overloaded it with power causing it to collapse to the ground. Zatanna conjures a scrying screen to witness the conflict between Amazo the Elongated Man and the Gypsy. Steel and Zatanna race to join the battle. Vibe and the Vixen search for Amazo. Vibe and the Vixen receive Zatanna's distress signal. Vibe is virtually incapacitated by his allergies. Dale Gunn and J'onn J'onzz the Manhunter From Mars regain consciousness after having been ambushed by Amazo. The Martian Manhunter believes water is the key to defeating Amazo. Aquaman locates Mera in the Place of Dark Currents. Steel is ambushed by Amazo. Zatanna meets up with Vibe and the Vixen. Amazo ambushes Vibe the Vixen and Zatanna. Only Zatanna is able to muster a defense against Amazo though ultimately it fails. Aquaman reconciles with Mera. Gunn and J'onn J'onzz the Manhunter From Mars depart for Superman's Fortress of Solitude. Amazo places the Justice League of America in a deep hole dug down into the Earth. Amazo seals the hole with an enormous rock entombing the Justice League of America. She wonders why the music doesn't affect him and abruptly he fades away. She is puzzled until the man who warned her boyfriend about the bridge being out appears.
