Scarce first edition with gilt lettering to spine and even scarcer original decorative covers internally. This book contains the original front and rear covers of this book inside. There are illustrations throughout including in text and full page plates plus a full page frontispiece. Edward Bradley 18271889 was an English novelist and clergyman. He was born in Kidderminster and educated at Durham University from which he took his pen name. He wrote under the name of Cuthbert M. Bede B.A. a few novels and tales Fairy Fables 1858 Glencraggan 1861 Fotheringhay 1885 etc. His most popular book was The Adventures of Mr. Verdant Green on the experiences of an Oxford undergraduate. There was a sequel Little Mr Bouncer and his friend Verdant Green. Tales of College Life often bound with it introduces the character of Mr Affable Canary. The celebrated illustrations to the Verdant Green books were the work of the author. In a full tree calf binding with gilt stamped detailing to the spine and board edges. Both boards and all other pages are securely attached. There are two bookplates to the front pastedown. Apart from some mild cracking to the spine area the extremities are in very good condition. The binding is slightly loose with the marbled and blank front endpapers being detached but present. Internally the pages are generally clean and bright apart from the occasional handling mark and minor brown spot. The original covers are slightly grubby. Very Good Richard Bentley and Sons hardcover

One volume contains the text and in-text illustrations and the second volume contains ninety-six beautifully illustrated plates in colour.Plate volume is disbound as issued.Collated and complete.Including chapters on different types of peasant clothing through Hungary's history different textiles and materials including linen outerwear canvas hair styles footwear factory materials and more and the effect of social economic and cultural changes to peasant clothing. Written by Maria Kresz a noted Hungarian ethnographer and historian. Her main areas of study included folk ceramics folk costumes folk art and textiles. Kresz received the Gold Degree of Labor Order Merit in 1981 and the Memorial Medal of Istvan Gyoffry of the Hungarian Ethnographic Society in 1985 for her contributions to these fields of academia.A scarce to find work. In the original quarter cloth binding with pictorial paper covered boards. Externally very smart with just some light bumping to the head and tail of the spines and extremities. A few small marks to the boards. Plate volume is disbound as issued. Internally firmly bound. The odd spot to the pages and plates which are otherwise bright and clean.
