Obviously taken by a professional photographer not mentioned though these photographs show Sydney Melbourne and Joyce Carroll in seven posed shots in Westwood. The names are obviously stage names Joyce Carroll actually looked like film Star Nancy Carroll. The Westwood campus of the University of California opened in 1929 with 5500 students. The original four buildings were the College Library now Powell Library Royce Hall the Physics-Biology Building now the Humanities Building and the Chemistry Building now Haines Hall arrayed around a quadrangular courtyard on the 400 acre campus. One shows them in front of DG house and three show them at the construction site of the Fox Theater in Westwood. Designed by architect Percy Parke Lewis the Fox was originally built in 1930 and first opened on August 14 1931 with a Spanish Mission style to it. The theatre was part of a widespread cinema construction program undertaken by Fox West Coast Theatres. Additional images show steamships including the S.S. Baranof S.S. Alaska S.S. Denali and S.S.
