41570This English educator and author served as principal of University College in Liverpool 1899-1903 and long-time vice-chancellor at the University of Liverpool 1903-19; in 1903 he revised and edited a history of English Congregationalism written by his father the noted Congregationalist church leader Robert William Dale. TLS 1p 7" X 9" Liverpool England 7 November 1908. Addressed to Reverend Oliver Huckel 1864-1940 American Congregationalist clergyman and author. Very good. Faint original folds; mounting traces on verso. On University of Liverpool letterhead Dale discusses some cryptic but clearly delicate issue regarding his and Huckel's mutual friend the noted Scottish theologian P.T. Forsyth 1848-1921. In part ".the Council and Educational Board of Mansfield College. came to no final decision so your judgment will still be in time to help us. I fully appreciate all that you say of Forsyth who is a close friend of mine and was a neighbour for many years; but we cannot run the risk of moving a man of his age to Oxford to begin new work under totally new conditions. He has never been a strong man physically." Boldly signed. 22711Gilbert was a popular Midwest wrestling champion of the '50s and '60s holder of many titles half of a celebrated tag team with Billy Goelz. Williams was a fixture on early national wrestling telecasts out of Marigold Garden with tag team partner Ruby Kay; narrowly missed being part of the bloodiest wreck in wrestling history: on March 3 1945 a flight from England to Paris carrying six out of seven pro wrestlers on a USO tour to entertain Allied troops crashed killing all aboard; Williams missed this flight and later that month wrestled at a Fred Kohler wrestling program in Chicago to raise funds for his colleagues' widows and children. Quite attractive printed lined form on which a telegram message would be written out longhand -- signed boldly by Hall presumably for a fan encountered in a Western Union office. Nice example from the height of his fame. Accompanied by a handsome glossy black and white photograph a head-and-shoulders portrait of a middle-aged Hall in military garb in an unidentified film role. Fine. unknown

Signed Program 8vo 5½" X 8½" 4pp n.p. n.y. Very good. Mild edgewear and faint mounting traces on middle third of rear wrapper; several small inked notes near bottom of front wrapper. Attractive program on buff stock for Hatfield's appearance at the "Community Concert Association" listing a dozen wide-ranging pieces -- classical Schubert Debussy Bizet Tschaikowsky Wagner-Liszt etc. to folk songs and negro spirituals. Hatfield signs large and bold in pencil near the top. Inner page 2 contains biography of Hatfield and "Annotations" 3 and verso p. 4 on each song. Undated but apparently of late 1930s vintage. Hatfield's career was cut short when he died of a liver ailment at age 44 so his autograph material rather uncommon. unknown
