In part: "Your letter followed me all the way to California. I accept with great pleasure your charming invitation. I play April 18 in Omaha Nebraska and I don't know yet when I will get to Appleton. Wonderfully cordial and personal early letter to an admirer reading in part: "Yes I visited Des Moines on my concert tour this spring -- and next season will be back in the Pacific Northwest at Portland on February 17th. I do not have the local details time place tickets and so forth. I shall be back on the Chase and Sanborn radio program for the fall season beginning August 13th -- and your song request will not be overlooked. It is a favorite of mine too." Large bold full signature in blue fountain pen. Recipient Kemp's return address shows Astoria Oregon hence the mention of Pacific Northwest. Her letter to him must have been exceptionally compelling to prompt such a detailed reply! unknown

"I am down in the Everglades Florida" Galento writes an admirer "playing the part of a character called 'Beef' in a movie called 'Across the Everglades' produced by the Schulberg Productions look for it this winter in your local movie house. Keep punching." "Wind Across the Everglades" a drama set in early Florida was written produced and directed by Budd Schulberg and starred Burl Ives Christopher Plummer Gypsy Rose Lee and Peter Falk. It was released in 1958 thereby dating this undated piece to approximately 1958. An interesting item written from on location. Uncommon. unknown

Check drawn on the Riggs National Bank with a handsome vignette of the bank at the left filled out to Wallace Brothers Machine Works for $49.90 and signed by Hancock. Glossy heavy stock reproduction of Hausner's 1948 surrealist painting "Forum der Einwartsgewendeten Optik" from the Historical Museum of the City of Vienna signed large and bold in blue ballpoint along the blank lower margin. Exceptionally bold and attractive "Compliments of / Richmond Pearson Hobson / with apologies for delay -- / Hong Kong April 21 1900" in brown ink heavy stock 3½" X 2½" card. Very good. Mild age toning; faint mounting traces at a couple corners. A choice example signed near the height of his fame. With original envelope cancelled in the Philippines on 22 May 1900. unknown

ALS 3pp 4½" X 7" Lincolnshire England 1870 July 18. Addressed to "My dear Harris." Very good. Good content referring to the political situation in France. In part: "If you go to Paris now you will find it at a most interesting time in all the fever of the beginning of the war. I think their going to war on the part of France out of pure jealousy of Prussia utilised by Napoleon for the supposed interest of his own dynasty is treason to the cause of civilisation and the union of Western Europe." Sure enough France declared war on Prussia the very day after Hodgson penned this letter. Mentions his summer plans "quietly and steadily reading in London in August when London is empty and though hot not feverish". A handsome and interesting example. From the collection of University of Chicago geology professor Albert Johannsen 1871-1962 author of "The House of Beadle and Adams and Its Dime and Nickel Novels" 1950 the definitive reference work and bibliography on the subject. Johannsen's original 8½" X 11" file folder bearing his printed "Collection of Albert Johannsen" label partly filled in by Johannsen accompanies this item. unknown

DS 1p lettersheet 7½" X 9 3/4" n.p. 30 October 1845. Very good. Original folds visible but not weakened. Hundley and two others "being duly Sworn" have "seen and Examined the Estray Hog taken up by Jas. Marshall and. do appraise the said Estray Hog at the Sum of Two Dollars & fifty cents. The said Hog is a harrow white colour about two years old no brand marked with an under keel in the left and overkeel in the Right Ear. We were informed that when the said Hog appeared on the plantation about 12 months ago was a boar and that he has been altered since -- & that he has ranged on this plantation & in the neighbourhood for 12 months past." Neatl penned in deep blue ink and signed at the conclusion by Hundley and two others Charles Huthison George I. Roberts. Below this justice of the peace Roberts testifies and signs again then below this another figure partly legible but presumably county clerk testfies "Sworn to by G I Roberts before me." "Estray is simply legalese for a domesticated animal found lost or wandering and the purpose of this "Notice of Estray" may have been to authorize the sheriff to impound and sell the animnal to recover upkeep costs. 37961This German Luftwaffe fighter ace was the last group commander of the 2nd Jagdgeschwader II./JG2 and a Knight's Cross recipient downing 47 enemy aircraft many of them over the English Channel and in North Africa. ALS 1p 8¼" X 11" Bayreuth Germany 1 August 1997. Addressed to Gerry D. Fridlund. Fine. On lined stock Karch pens an American admirer in black ballpoint entirely in German. He notes that many of his things were destroyed in a bombing attack just before the end of World War Two and he lost all of his photographs from 1944 and 1945 and therefore can't fulfill his request for an image from this period; he encloses a photograph from October 1943 showing him conversing with officers from his unit at their air base in Normandy. Boldly signed. The photograph is included being a modern high quality print 3½" X 5". On the blank lower margin Karch signs boldly. Also present is the original mailing envelope addressed in Karch's hand and signed by him again on the verso along with his home address. unknown

I enclose an article that I think you will find of interest. I was born at 303 South Court St. Rockford Ill." Original envelope present. The photograph he mentions sending under separate cover is not present but the front portion of the oversize envelope 11" X 8¼" is addressed in La Forge's hand and also signed by him. unknown

At the bottom of a typed autograph request "This is my fifth attempt so please" from future noted Lincoln and Civil War scholar Arnold F. Gates 1914-93 "The Little Flower" signs. Accompanied by a delightful and fine glossy 6½" X 8½" black and white news agency photograph a half-length portrait of a seated La Guardia in suite and tie right hand cupped to mouth as he bellows. Original mimeographed paper label neatly affixed to verso dated 3 June 1947 captions this image "La Guardia Is Heard on Rents" and explains: "As the Senate backtracked yesterday and knocked out an amendment adopted last week directing monthly decontrol of 30 of the nation's rent areas Fiorello La Guardia began a personal campaign among members of Congress against what he termed the 'blackjacking' Senate bill. La Guardia head of the National Fair Rents Committee is shown with characteristic flourish stating at a Senate Office Building conference that he opposes particularly the Hawkes Amendment which would allow landlords and tenants to enter into leases extending to Dec. 31 1948 at not to exceed 15% more than the rent existing last Sept. 1. unknown
