This appears as most of pages 215 and 216 in Orcutt's 1922 novel "The Balance: A Novel of Today" published in New York by Frederick A. Stokes Company. Johannsen authored "The House of Beadle and Adams and Its Dime and Nickel Novels" University of Oklahoma Press 1950 the definitive reference work and bibliography on the subject and enjoyed collecting working draft pages from authors. Printed caption affixed to verso dates this 27 June 1947 captions it "Townsendites Renew 'Assault' on Capital Hill" and describe the scene: "Townsendites here for the 7th Annual Townsend Plan National Convention converged on Capitol Hill this morning to urge Congress to pass the Townsend National Prosperity Plan Bill which is now before the House for the 13th successive year. Photo shows left to right: Senator Claude Pepper D of Fla.; Dr. Francis E. Townsend 80-year-old creator of the pension plan." The old-age pension scheme of this physician and activist 1867-1960 sprang up during the Great Depression and while it never passed it did prove influential when Congress devised the Social Security system. unknown

Writing shortly before his death Read replies ".the countenance of Colonel Ingraham came into memory; but I cannot recall anything regarding him. In this fiery speech Walsh denounces President Roosevelt's controversial court-packing scheme. Signed large and bold near the bottom of the self-cover along with "Compliments of." Walsh was a well-known critic of FDR's plan to enlarge the Supreme Court making this signed memento particularly desireable. unknown
