If haiku in Japanese literature is a word picture that seizes a moment, the sonnet in the English tradition is a sound picture that makes time stand still. The Seasons is a book of whispers spoken by a voice to his beloved. Inspired by the original meaning of the word 'sonnet' ('a little sound'), Bruce Meyer transforms the poetic framework to record the intimate moments in the lives of two people. The accumulation of those moments is what comprises the lives of those two people, and the reader is invited to eavesdrop on the utterances and promises of their lives. Written over a ten-year period and finally collected here, The Seasons takes up the process of a century of sonnets where each, as in the tradition of Neruda's 100 Sonnets, is a little whisper in the ear of the lover. 125p. A trove of 424 catalogued items, comprising correspondence including letters by Albert Einstein, Thomas Mann, Franz Werfel, and Salman Schocken; Klopstock's manuscripts and personal documents; more than 50 books from his library (among them inscribed copies by Max Brod, Klaus and Thomas Mann, and Franz Werfel), and a large collection of photographs. When Kafka died in the Austrian lung sanitarium of Kierling in 1924, it was (to employ the phrase used by Klaus Mann) in the arms of his friend Robert Klopstock, an Hungarian-born medical student with literary ambitions whom Kafka had met three years earlier at a different sanitarium, a fellow sufferer from tuberculosis. Klopstock's estate now makes accessible the largely unknown biography of the physician who was forced into emigration in 1938 and became a U.S. citizen in 1945. His manuscripts, his personal documents, his copious collection of photographs, the inscribed books in his library, as well as his correspondence with such eminent figures as Thomas Mann, Franz Werfel, Albert Einstein, Albert Schweitzer, and Salman Schocken now permit us to trace for the first time the path which the life of Kafka's last friend took. - Mann and Einstein both interceded on Klopstock's behalf to help him emigrate and find employment in the United States. In one of these letters, Mann directly invoked Klopstock's role as the selfless care-giver that would come to define his image in Kafka scholarship: "I first met Dr. Klopstock through the gifted young German writer Franz Kafka, for whom Dr. Klopstock did so much professionally and spiritually before he died". From Franz Werfel we have the now-famous 1934 letter in which he describes, in quasi-religious terms, his own relationship to Kafka, in whom he recognized (as he confides to Klopstock) the "Herald of the King". - Indeed, Klopstock himself was well-connected within German and Hungarian literary circles and active as a translator, especially of the humourous stories of Frigyes Karinthy, on which he consulted Kafka. Later increasingly private in his personal affairs and notoriously reticent about his famous companion, the physician was dubbed "crazy Dr. Klopstock" by Max Brod, who appears to have begrudged him his friendship with Kafka, viewing him, perhaps, as something of an interloper. Klopstock held and jealously guarded the Hungarian translation rights to Kafka's works; together with his wife Giselle, Klopstock undertook the first Hungarian translation of Kafka's "Trial", the beginning of which is preserved here. Giselle's own novel "Without Destination", set in a lung sanitarium, won the approval of Thomas Mann, who recommended it to Knopf, his American publisher. - Robert Klopstock died in New York in 1972, a highly respected surgeon and scientist whose research led to significant contributions in the field of pulmonary tuberculosis. His estate forms an extraordinary collection in which important discoveries still remain to be made. A PDF catalogue is available on request. Kafkas letzter Freund. What unseen forces in the universe govern our lives, and especially those who touch us with their beauty, intelligence, and their craft? We augur the planets to see where they will lead us and what they will tell us, but, like us, their paths cannot be predicted. Those unpredicatable paths are where poetry comes from. In The Madness of Planets, Bruce Meyer pays homage to those whose creative generosity has touched him as well as lovers of poetry 75p. Author inscription on tiltle page Book

A human document, with an Introduction by Barbara Hannah, 8vo paperback, Schippert & Co, Zurich, s.d. [ 1967 ], XII-128 pp. with 12 original colored drawings under an envelope pasted on guard, and autograph text in flemish on 14 leaves (letters, poems) in another one. Full Tite : The healing influence of Active Imagination in a Specific Case of Neurosis [ Unique and exceptional copy with autograph manuscripts and 12 original drawings: Anna Marjula mystery solved ! ] Unique copy with 12 original colored symbolical drawings sometimes (3 of them with comments in english) and 14 leaves with manuscript text (3 letters and poems) in flemish. Most of this extra-material is not signed except three letters (two dated 13-5-73 and 28-10-74) signed "Tante Han" or “Hanna”, clearly original work by "Anna Marjula", pseudonym used to protect the identity of the author (The letter "E". On an envelop is written : "These drawings illustrate the fifth conversation with the Great Mother pages 26-27". Many early jungian analysts worked with Anna Marjula (Toni Wolff, Emma Jung or Barbara Hannah), but her real name remained unknown, until now (but we knew it was a pianist). Indeed, our research allowed us to identify the recipient, Ms. Parvati Chavoix-Jodjana ("Vati") but especially the author, who hides behind the pseudonym of Anna Marjula : the famous dutch pianist and composer Hanna Beekhuis (1889-1980) ! A newspaper clipping is joined on a postcard, (that we join), titled : "Gouden medaille voor Hanna Beekhuis" and here's the translation : "Gold medal for Hanna Beekhuis: Arnhem, 3 Oct. - The Dutch composer of chamber music works and songs, Hanna Beekhuis from Ellecom, who currently resides in Zurich, has won a gold medal and an honorary diploma with "Reflet du Japon", a composition for viola and viola at an international competition held in Buenos Aires". It is known she won this medal in 1961. Hanna Beekhuis resided in Zurich, and was previously in relationship with Carl Jung (28 letters or copy of letters between Jung and Hanna Beekhuis, from 1942 until 1960, would be kept in the ETH-Bibliothek). Barbara Hannah explains in her preface that “Professor Jung had, however, once spoken to Anna of including it in a volume of case histories, and, as he died before he had collected the other cases, she was naturally disappointed”. We identify well the identical writing of "Aunt Hanna" with that present on the handwritten drawings, and with the only autograph word reproduced in the work - "Eve". Our incredible copy comes from Parvati Chavoix-Jodjana, daughter of a famous javanese dancer in France, Raden Mas Jodjana (1893-1972) and his wife Raden Ayou. Hanna Beekhuis accompanied the dancer in the 1920s. Another interesting relation with Jungian Psychanalysis is that the Jodjana were friends with Kurt Binswanger and his wife Erica since 1935. Here's some translated extract on a signed letter : “You said me that your Father has become your Guru. What is a guru ? [… ] Your father told me that he was a free thinker. I am that too but Christianity [ … ] is still in blood”. In another one : "The Jodjanas" have meant a lot to me in the course of my life, especially your father, [ … ] your mother too”. Anglais

It was Emily Carr (1871?1945).[helped blaze] .a path for modern women artists. Overcoming the confines of late Victorian culture, Carr became a major force in modern art. Her boldly original landscapes are praised today for capturing an untamed British Columbia -and its indigenous peoples- just before industrialization would change it forever. In her latest novel, Susan Vreeland brings to life this fiercely independent and underappreciated figure. From illegal potlatches in tribal communities to prewar Paris, where her art was exhibited in the famed Salon d'Automne, Carr's story is as arresting as it is vibrant. Vreeland tells it with gusto and suspense, giving vivid portraits of Carr and the unconventional people to whom she was inevitably drawn: Sophie, a native basket maker; Harold, the son of missionaries, who embraces indigenous cultures; Fanny, a New Zealand artist who spends a summer with Carr painting in the French countryside; and Claude, a French fur trader who steals her heart. The result is a glorious novel that will appeal to lovers of art, native cultures, and lush historical fiction. Signed by author on title page Book

Once upon a time, beautiful Joanna Sherwood, the Countess of Carew, had been wildly, helplessly in love with Adrian Delacourt, the darkly handsome, devastatingly charming Duke of Roxbury. That was before she married Adrian. That was before he showed his true colors when he accused her of unfaithfulness and dragged her name through the mud of public scandal. That was before she fled to Italy with Adrian's best friend, Gareth Sherwood, who rescued her from the total ruin of her divorce by making her his wife. Now Joanna had returned to England as a ravishing young widow--only to find nothing had changed.Unfair scandal still shrouded her name--and impossible love still burned in her heart. Book
3 dossiers. Ca. 130 documents, mostly 4to. - I. Ca. 40 typewritten documents. - II. Ca. 60 documents (13 of which autograph letters signed). - III. Ca. 30 typewritten documents. - Includes 5 monochrome photographs (dated "Peking Octobre 1965"), 1 sized 140 x 88 mm, 4 between 203 x 128 mm and 257 x 191 mm (newspaper clipping added, 30 Sept. 1965, publishing one of the photos). This collection focuses on King Norodom Sihanouk's politics, constituted in the circles of power through Charles Meyer, his advisor for communication and public relations. Especially Sihanouk's relations to global political agents become clear during this troubled period, which shows China and Vietnam in the first row with America und France. - I. Cambodia's neighbourly relations with China during the Cultural Revolution. Documents (meetings, negotiations, audiences, protocols, delegation lists, drafts, trade agreements and speeches), some with annotations, mostly concerning diplomatic progress between Prince Sihanouk and President Liu Shaqu with his first minister Zhou Enlai in the years of 1963-65 in Beijing. One document deals with the project of the Khmer-Chinese friendship resolution. Also interesting is an analytical summary of the dialogues held on board a boat transporting the Cambodian delegation on the Yangtze. - Sihanouk's declaration to the Chinese people, with deletions and annotations: "Pour nous, cambodgiens, la Chine est bien notre amie numéro un [...]" ("For us, Cambodians, China is assuredly our best friend [...]"). - II. The privileged, close relationship between Meyer and Sihanouk. These documents illustrate their direct collaboration, as well as Meyer's career, in distinctions and newspaper articles. Included are 13 autograph letters signed by Sihanouk, including a charming note relating to the politics of de Gaulles: "M. Mesmer vient de m’annoncer des cadeaux très très substantiels de la France à notre Education Nationale […] et à notre D[éfense] N[ationale] (chars, avions, GMC, etc…) en quantité extrêmement 'satisfaisante' [...]" ("M. Messmer has informed me this minute of the very substantial gifts of France to our National Education and our National Defence (tanks, aircraft, GMC, etc. ...) of an extremely 'satisfying' quantity [...]"). - III. Foreign affairs and minutes. Documents (interventions, summaries, news paper articles, reports, press releases, telegrams) often annotated, e. g. "Lettre ouverte aux milieux impérialistes" ("Open letter to the imperialist world") annotated and initialled: "Vous avez rencontré des échecs humiliants et la faiblesse de votre politique dans les pays d’Asie, qui sont vos satellites est un fait universellement reconnu [...]" ("You have experienced the humiliating failure and weakness of your politics in the Asian countries, which are your vasalls, this is a world-wide acknowledged fact [...]"). - Meyer lived in Indochina for 25 years, 15 of which were spent in Cambodia in the years 1946-1970. Meyer wrote the books "Derrière le sourire khmer" (Behind the Khmer Smile. Plon, 1971) and "Les Français en Indochine: 1860-1910" (The French in Indochina: 1860-1910. Hachette, 1996). - List of documents on request.
