The narrative is whimsical and informative the illustrations are in a lightly comic style. The back cover illustration is of the Skyomish Sunrise fly for steelhead. Comprising:<br/><br/>1 "Home Waters" Drypoint etching first proof impression of a scene of nine ducks in flight used as the frontispiece to the large-format Derrydale retrospective of Roland Clark's Etchings with the title "The Morning Flight". The published etching includes Clark's monogram in lower left added subsequent to this proof. Ordeman does not note a proof impression in his discussion of the published book. This print is signed and inscribed by the artist "First Proof - to Gene Connett June 10 1938"; in the foreword to the book Connett writes "My friend Roland Clark has asked me to write a short foreword to this book of his etchings and as I obviously admire his work it is a great pleasure for me to accede to his request. . That his art has received widespread recognition in this country is common knowledge; but it is not so well known that a large number of his etchings have been sold abroad where the quality of his work is highly appreciated." The foreword is dated June 14 1938. The Florida Frontier 1887. Assembled by a party of men on an extended tour and hunting expedition in the area the album documents numerous locations in southwest Florida in the period immediately following the extension of the Florida Southern Railroad into the Peace River region in 1886. All of the photographs are captioned in ink and all but the first nine which were taken at Interlachen near Gainesville relate to southwest Florida. The album includes scenes of the grounds of Charles Francis Jr. at Interlachen and the residence of Goerge Long; the railway station an office car and a street scene at Trabue; views of the Hotel Punta Gorda under construction; waterfront scenes along the Punta Rassa; views of Fort Myers; a Spanish Fishing village; a "Cracker" family and their orange grove; Judge Ziba King and his house at Fort Ogden; scenes of the Myakka River Bartow and Zolfo Springs and a number of hunting and camping scenes. Nineteenth century photographic albums of Florida are very scarce; the present album shows the rural landscape of southwest Florida at the dawn of the modern age. unknown books

A handsome album documenting missionary work in a little-known area. <br/><br/>The party almost certainly attached to the Church of Scotland Mission evidently enjoyed their time in Africa as they proceeded from Tanganyika into Central Africa. Among the photographs are shots of a native witch doctor women preparing food native sports including pillow fighting as well as topographical images. The also found time to hunt and thirteen pages are dedicated to big game. There are images of eland lion leopard elephants koodoo bushbuck hippopotamus zebra reedbuck porcupine sable wild boar buffalo hartebeeste and wildebeeste. <br/><br/>Lastly there is a photo of the Zomba Church belonging to the Church of Scotland Mission and one of the Blantyre Church which was completed in 1891. Inspired by the example of David Livingstone the Church of Scotland decided to establish a mission in Malawi in the mid-1870s.
