This is a striking and compelling production of the famous Knight's Tale by Geoffrey Chaucer. It is beautifully printed and bound. A note from the press states that "the narration of this tale works by condensing actions and their effects into powerful symbols and figurative images. It is therefore a work that lends itself to illustration. The Knight's Tale has in fact been illustrated many times but never so thoroughly as in the current edition. Moreover past illustrators have tended to romanticize or sentimentalize the story eschewing its most violent and disturbing images." The book was printed at the Press when it was part of the College of Fine Arts at Stephen F. Austin University. The Press was part of the Stephen F. Austin St. University College of Fine Arts until December of 2019. Since then the press has become part of the Crazy Creek Studios and ceased any connection to SFA. Printed from photopolymer plates. Designed and printed by Jones and Terri Goggans. Printed in Goudy Thirty and Gill Sans type on Hahnemühle Gutenberg paper. Text is printed in black with red shoulder notes. The book is accompanied by a recording of the text by Marc Guidry on a disc in a pocket on the front pastedown. Bound in dark red cloth with a burgundy leather spine with gilt titling to spine. There is a small black and red image of one of the book's illustrations on the cover. Housed in a gray cloth slipcase with a circular hole in the front cover to reveal the cover illustration. In fine condition. Measures 9.75 x 13.75 inches. Unpaginated about 100 pages PRI/111424. LaNana Creek Press hardcover

This is a Facsimile of the Golden Cockerel Press edition of 1928-1931 and illustrated throughout with engravings by ERIC GILL. Two Volumes housed in a CLAMSHELL BOX not quite flush to edges but likely intentional due to size/weight. Included with the Main book is a Second volume entitled "The Golden Cockerel Press The Canterbury Tales and Eric Gill: Decoration and the Mise en Page" by Peter Holliday. A useful addition to such a sumptuous volume. This is the same size as the 'Canterbury Tales; but very slim. This is Bound with a black cloth spine sage-green paper boards and a Title Label to the front board. "The Canterbury Tales" is bound in Black Nigerian goatskin leather by G. Lachenmaier with Fabriano Tiziano endpapers. Leather is blocked in 24-carat gold with gold titles/decoration to the spine and upper board. All edges gilt. With a black satin ribbon marker. Canterbury Tales = c.768 pages. Peter Holliday Essay = 48pp. Dimensions of the books are 12 ½" x 7 ¾" Outer Clamshell dimensions are Small Folio = 35cm by 23cm 13¾ by 9 inches.
