Kern Photographs" stamps and a "Deathtrap Films" stamp on the verso.<br /> <br /> A landmark work in the Cinema of Transgression. Conceived by Kern and artist David Wojnarowicz as both a film and a multi-media art installation the film was shot unscripted over two days and was largely based on Wojnarowicz's childhood specifically the scenes concerning the terrifying and abusive father played by Wojnarowicz. Performance artist Karen Finley starred as the subservient mother and the young East Village model Leg who would go on to star in several more of Kern's films and music videos starred as the lead daughter Elisabeth/Cassandra. The film premiered at Wojnarowicz's "You Killed Me First Installation #8" at the Ground Zero Gallery in December 1985. <br /> <br /> A seemingly normal family sits down for Thanksgiving dinner and after a series of disturbing flashbacks revealing previous family traumas the daughter shoots her family at the dinner table angrily proclaiming "You killed me first!" The film was first screened in Finland in 1940 with a further short theatrical run in 1960. This poster dates from that re-release date. This particular poster is the work of prolific poster-designer R. Määttä. 60cm x 40cm approx. It is in Very Good condition with no pinholes or adhesive marks. There is handling creasing all around the edges A minor nick to paper at the bottom edge. Well preserved otherwise clean and bright. Final script for the 1940 film. <br /> <br /> The AFI Catalog notes: "According to a Twentieth Century- Fox press release this was the first writing effort for Fox sound man William Brent. After his story was bought Brent was made a writer at the studio. Also the first screenwriter assignment for Irving Cummings Jr. and William Conselman Jr. Both men were "second generation Hollywood" as Cummings' father was a director and Conselman's a screenwriter. <br /> <br /> "According to Twentieth Century-Fox press releases the football sequences were shot at the Los Angeles Olympic Stadium and at the Pasadena Rose Bowl. Despite a summer heat wave the extras were required to wear heavy winter coats. As such large wind machines behind huge cakes of ice were used to cool off the fields. Thirty-four college football players from local universities were used as extras in this film. They included USC's Ambrose Schindler Bill Howard Red Morgan Tony Tonelli Ollie Day and Owen Hansen and UCLA's Billy Bob Williams Bill Overlin and Bill Radovich. Location filming was done at the Inglewood Railway Station as the station received little use. Because only two freight trains used the station each day movie extras were the only passengers ever to use the station. The press release also reported that the rental cost of a four-car train at the station was $150 per day. HR reported that Fox borrowed Lewis Howard from Universal Pictures for this film."<br /> <br /> A Fox programmer about a doctor reflecting on his college days how he was lured onto the football team and away from his studies a flirtation with a widow and meeting his true love. The flyer also notes a benefit screening of Stan Brakhage's 1962 film "Dog Star Man."<br /> <br /> The Film-Makers' Cinematheque was founded in New York in 1964 by Lithuanian-American director Jonas Mekas a film critic filmmaker and father figure of the avant-garde New American Cinema of the 1960s. A successor of Mekas' 1962 group the Film-Makers' Cooperative the Cinematheque frequently changed locations the original venue being 414 Park Avenue South later moving to Astor Place Playhouse on Lafayette as noted on the flyer. The screenings quickly became a meeting ground for experimental filmmakers and fans and was attended by Andy Warhol Stan Brakhage Kenneth Anger and other key figures of the underground film scene. <br /> <br /> Filmmaker and painter Naomi Levine was considered by Warhol to be his "first female superstar" and gained notoriety in 1963 by becoming the first of Warhol's female superstars to appear nude in one of his films "Tarzan and Jane Regained. Sort Of." Her earliest films including her debut effort "Yes" garnered glowing praise from Mekas who regularly screened her work and interviewed her in December 1964 for "Movie Journal" his film column which appeared regularly in The Village Voice. <br /> <br /> 8.5 x 11 inches.
