Portrait photographique d'Éluard en frontispice et illustration réhaussée à l'aquarelle par René Char en couverture. Un des 50 premiers exemplaires sur japon n° 3. Envoi signé : « pour Edmée Maus ces poèmes fraternels. René Char ». . En 1937 Paul et Nusch Éluard viennent rejoindre René Char au Cannet où il poursuit sa convalescence avec son épouse Georgette. C'est là que les deux poètes écrivent « Neuve » et « Paliers » textes qui ne seront publiés qu'en 1960 sous ce titre Deux Poèmes ornés en couverture d'un dessin de René Char intitulé « La Torche du Prodige ». L'éditeur Jean Hugues publia également deux autres recueils de Char : Arrière-histoire du poème pulvérisé en 1953 avec une lithographie de Nicolas de Staël et Se rencontrer paysage avec Joseph Sima en 1973. Exemplaire offert par le poète à Edmée Maus : cette dernière a réuni à Genève l'une des plus importantes collections de livres des années 1950-1960 sur le modèle des grandes bibliothèques de la fin du XIXe. Après avoir collectionné les livres illustrés du XVIIIe siècle elle se consacre au début des années 1950 aux débuts de l'imprimerie ainsi que des des éditions et reliures contemporaines. A moving dedication from poet to poet written on the eve of the war during which the two friends would contribute together to poetic resistance journals such as l'Honneur des poètes.
