Frontispicio con retrato de Montaigne.<br />Tomo II: 1 h. 538 p. 7 h.<br />Tomo III: 1 h. 411 p 6 h.<br />Tomo IV: 1 h. xviii 93 p.</p><p>La edición se basó en los textos más antiguos y correctos disponibles con añadidos como cartas del autor y nuevos Ãndices.</p><p>La obra recopila los <em>Ensayos</em> donde Montaigne reflexiona sobre filosofÃa moral polÃtica y sociedad a través de una perspectiva personal y crÃtica. La edición de Coste agrega observaciones breves y un suplemento con análisis de la vida del autor y comparaciones filosóficas con Epicteto.</p><p>Montaigne publica los libros I y II en Burdeos en 1580 y luego los completa y adjunta un tercer libro en la edición parisina de 1588. Continúa luego ampliando su texto de cara a una nueva edición. De ese trabajo han quedado dos testigos a veces divergentes: un ejemplar de los <em>Ensayos</em> plagado de correcciones manuscritas del propio Montaigne el llamado ejemplar de Burdeos y la edición póstuma de 1595.</p><p>La Iglesia católica incluirá esta obra en su <strong>Ãndice de Libros Prohibidos </strong>casi un siglo después de su publicación en 1676.</p><p>La famosa edición de Montaigne por <em>Coste</em>. Escasa con el volumen suplementario.
