A very scarce work this is an exact facsimile of a 1782 pamphlet the only copy of which is held by the library of the Somerset Archaeological and Natural History Society Taunton Castle.The work concerns the Monmouth Rebellion also known as the Revolt of the West an attempt by Protestant factions to overthrow the newly appointed Roman Catholic King James II in 1685.This pamphlet contains a list of 261 persons condemned by Chief Justice Jefferies in 1685 following the rebellion details about these men and the locations in which they were executed.With a three page advertisement for the publication of upcoming similar works to the rear.With the contemporary owner's inscription 'Philip Broadwead Nov 11th 1888' to the front free endpaper. In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding with paper covered boards. Fraying to cloth at back strip head and tail. Marks to boards most prominent to tail of front board where there is a significant region of foxing and discolouration. Contemporary inscription to front free endpaper. Samuel Locke 1731-1778 was a Congregational clergyman and after being a pastor in Sherborn Massachusetts he was made president of Harvard College 1770-1773.
