L'A. trae gli esempi che andrà via via enumerando, dalle iscrizioni cristiane, dal Decameron e da Dante: florilegio delle "espressioni di riverenza e d'affetto, o di desiderio, o di lutto, o di preghiera, o di lode, segnate sopra i sepolcri". L'A. si ispira al Fabretti, Boldretti, Maffei, Muratori, Zaccaria. I capitoli spiegano come decifrare correttamente iscrizioni con sigle inintelligibili, scambio di lettere, con omissioni di lettere o sillabe, parole ridondanti o mancanti, disgiunte o in fallo. L'A. analizza la "stampa Mannelli" delle novelle del Boccaccio, correggendo e spiegando. Una delle rarissime copie con allegata l'incisione allegorica disegnata da Guarana ed incisa dal Gianpiccoli. Al frontis marca tipografica con il motto "Festina Lente" all' inizio piccolo capolettera figurato a fondo nero, piccoli fregi ed legante carattere rotondo minuscolo. Opera rara, curiosa e varie volte ristampata come riferisce Graesse. Elenca in 134 capitoli vari vizi e facoltà umane e ne commenta i contenuti: Demonio, angeli, matrimonio, idolatria, spiriti, omicidio, lussuria, morte ecc. Manca a tutta la bibliografia consultata compreso Adams, Bm. Stc. German, Choix, Brunet e vari cataloghi di religione come Rosenthal n° 202 e Olschki Cat. 157 "Theology". Solo Graesse elenca 4 edizioni, la più antica del 1533 ma non siamo riusciti a determinare quale fosse la prima edizione. Alcune carte con fori di tarlo ben restaurati, frontis con antica firma cassata, ipercettibili tracce di alone ma esemplare bello nitido e genuino. in-16, pp. 78, broch. edit. (piccola mancanza al piatto ant.). Terza edizione ampliata e definitiva di opera curiosa e decisamente non comune. Filippo Corridi (Livorno 1806 - 1877) fu brillante matematico e autore di trattati di calcolo, geometria e trigonometria, precettore dei figli del Granduca Leopoldo II di Toscana e, a partire dal 1850, direttore delle Scuole Tecniche delle Arti e delle Manifatture su nomina del Granduca. In quest'opera l'A. si difende strenuamente dall'accusa di essere stato fautore dell'introduzione della ghigliottina in Toscana, discolpandosi attraverso la narrazione dei fatti, corredata dalle pubblicazione di documenti e note ufficiali. Nel codice criminale del Governo Toscano, si ripristinava, il 20 giugno 1853, la pena capitale. La ghigliottina, che era stata fatta giungere a Firenze dalla Francia in gran segreto, era stata imballata in casse con dicitura ''strumenti idraulici''. Tale particolare spinse diversi periodici piemontesi ad attribuire al Prof. Corridi la perorazione, l'acquisto e il montaggio dello strumento di morte. A fronte di tali calunniose asserzioni i Ministri toscani tacquero e l'A. avviò una sua propria indagine che ricostruisse la vicenda, grazie alla cui pubblicazione riuscì infine dimostrare la propria estraneità ai fatti ed a riabilitare il proprio buon nome. "Edizione originale". “Giovanni Battista Gherardo d'Arco (1739-1791), aristocratico, economista e letterato nato ad Arco (Trentino). Ha scritto numerose opere di economia: il primo lavoro che gli valse una certa rinomanza fu la dissertazione presentata all'Accademia delle scienze di Mantova in seguito a un concorso bandito nel 1770 e pubblicata successivamente col titolo “Dell'armonia politico-economica fra la città ed il suo territorio”. In-8° libricino di pp. (34) tra manoscritte e a stampa; un manuale di istruzioni per la preparazione della chiesa e degli abiti degli officianti, e per i rito da officiare in caso di funerale di un reale o di un pontefice; a pp. 2 e 3 vi è una pianta della zona d’altare e a fianco la legenda con la “spiegazione della contropianta dimostrativa della distribuzione delli luoghi per l’esequie di un re (mmss), da cui si possono tratte le indicazioni sulla sistemazione di panche e sgabelli nella zona dell’altare, seguono 9 pagine di testo “de officio...” rimontate, e l’ultima parte tutta manoscritta, contiene il “rito da osservarsi da chi fa l’orazione funebre per la morte di qualche re e c. alla presenza del Sacro Collegio”, “l’ordine con il quale si procede con li cinque vescovi al catafalco per le cinque assoluzioni”, “rito dell’assoluzione solenne con cinque assolventi”. in fine 2 cc.bb. Legatura coeva in piena pelle verde con cornice dorata ai piatti.

In 8, pp. (2b) + 46 + (2). Stemma xilogr. al fr. Ex libris al verso della sguardia. Legatura coeva in p. pg. Statuti della Confraternita delle anime del Purgatorio di Roma il cui scopo principale - come dichiarato nel primo capitolo - e' 'l'esercizio di opere di Pieta', e di devozione con profitto spirituale de' Fratelli'. Tra gli uffici della Confraternita c'e' anche quello di assistere i condannati a morte: quando e' dichiarata la condanna a morte di un prigioniero, si stabiliscono un numero di messe 'ad postulandam gratiam bene moriendi'. Il giorno antecedente l'esecuzione si recitano continue orazioni 'da applicarsi in sollievo dei delinquenti, e nel giorno della morte dopo l'ore 20, per suffragio de' medemi, invigilera' che da Fratelli si reciti nella nostra Chiesa l'Officio intero di requie'. Il giorno successivo alla morte viene fatta celebrare una messa cantata con l'assistenza di 33 'povere vedove preventivamente invitate' alle quali viene distribuito in segno di ricompensa un giulio ciascuna 'per suffragio di quell'anima'. Il denaro raccolto dalle cassette delle elemosine dovra' essere impiegato per la celebrazione di altre messe. A tal fine sara' redatto un libro nel quale compare da un lato il nome del giustiziato e dall'altro il denaro raccolto durante le messe celebrate per lui. Si allega un foglio sciolto (cm 20 x 27,5) con stemma della Confraternita xilogr. in testa. Si tratta del foglietto che veniva distribuito alle 'carissime sorelle' per invitarle a presenziare alle oblazioni delle messe.
