brossura L'elemento distintivo del tema conosciuto come "Trionfo della Morte" è riscontrabile nello scheletro assassino armato non solo di falce, ma anche di frecce o di altri strumenti di offesa, a volte abbinati; con tali armi, lo scheletro colpisce mortalmente al cuore, al collo, in fronte, tutti gli umani, non gli animali, che in queste raffigurazioni sono invece risparmiati dalla furia. Lo scheletro è simbolo di morte, ed è incoronato; impersona il potere assoluto, senza l'obbligo di alcun processo né giudizio da emanare. Anche per questo la morte, unica dominatrice dei viventi, lascia sgomenti. Nella sua architettura compositiva, il tema esplicita una seppur semplice ma originale identità iconica e simbolica, che lo distingue da ogni immagine macabra. Nel corso dei secoli è stato proposto con alcune variazioni, che hanno contribuito alla sua costante attualità.
