1929181664London: George Allen & Unwin Ltd 1929. First edition in English of one of Hegel's most important works. Although it is less widely discussed than his first major work the Phenomenology of Spirit 1807 The Science of Logic lays the foundation of the philosophical "system" of Logic Nature and Spirit which Hegel later described in his Encyclopaedia of the Philosophical Sciences 1817 leaving it unclear just how necessary the "introduction" to the system he had earlier presented in the Phenomenology of Spirit might be. Science of Logic was originally published in Germany in three parts between 1812 and 1816 as Wissenschaft der Logik. This translation is based on the edition published by Felix Meiner in 1923. 2 vols octavo. Folding table in vol. 1. Original dark red cloth spine lettered in gilt with publisher's device in gilt. Contemporary bookseller's ticket to front pastedowns. Spine ends lightly bumped extremities lightly rubbed boards faintly mottled edges and endpapers a touch toned and foxed. A very good copy. hardcover
