Will Bradley 1868-1962was a leading book designer in the forefront of the American Arts and Crafts movement. His posters advertisements book designs and magazine covers are both striking and utilitarian. Spine label missing part of underlying paper missing about .5" on bottom. The text leaves are printed in green with inset illustrations; the six full color plates by Gertrude Bradley were printed by Edmund Evans. Establishes a succession of movements of men and supplies to the border region in relation to the on-going pursuit of hostile Apaches in Arizona New Mexico and Mexico. In part: "The commanding officer Fort Union New Mexico will detail two companies of Infantry for field service at Lang's Ranch New Mexico. They will proceed to Separate New Mexico as soon as transportation can be obtained reporting the time of their arrival at that point by telegraph to Brigadier-General George Crook U.S. Army Fort Bowie A. T. from whom they will receive further instructions.The companies will take from Union the necessary camp equipage either shelter or common tents two six-mule teams rations and stores for sixty days six pounds grain per animal and 200 rounds of ammunition per man." Additionally: "Lieutenant-Colonel A. P. Morrow 6th Cavalry will move immediately with three troops cavalry from Fort Bayard to Separate and from there to Cloverdale Alamo Vejo Emory Spring or such permanent water as he can find near the Mexican line. One troop will be stationed at each point with Indian scouts and the positions will be selected with reference to watching the line for Indians coming from the south." A PS concerning his son Cuthbert indirectly dates the letter to 1880. Cuthbert became a prolific painter of the British fox hunting scene. In the PS the father writes of his son's sketch appearing in "The Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News". Since the letter has Cuthbert as 19 at the time the sketch was an early work. .
