193443069n.d. but 1934. Original clean copy typescript poem; 9ll. on onionskin; previous mail folds ex-Mooney Papers Bancroft Library with their small rubberstamps to each leaf else Very Good and sound. Lengthy unpublished ballad of 86 4- and 5-line stanzas recounting the plight of iron molder and IWW leader Tom Mooney from his birth to the present date 1934 based on the penultimate stanza on p. 6 describing Judge Griffin: "all these eighteen years since the 1916 trial / Has fought on Mooney's side". Though no author is provided the poet has a detailed knowledge of Mooney's biography and trial beginning before his birth with his father "A tall trade-union Irishman / Choking his lungs out mining coal"; progressing to Mooney's early childhood helping his widowed mother make ends meet as a paperboy; and the first trial against him after dynamite was found or planted on a boat in the San Pablo Bay a crime for which he was exonerated. The poem additionally recounts the first meetings between Mooney and Warren K. Billings as well as the tireless travel and work his mother and sister shouldered to bring justice after it was revealed that the star witness Frank Oxman had perjured himself. The poem ends with the heartbreaking death of Mother Mooney who was laid in state at the gates of San Quentin and the mournful plea: "Warren Billings is forty years old. / Tom Mooney's hair grows white. / How soon will California turn / Her long long wrong to right" Another five years would pass before liberal Governor Culbert Olson would pardon him in 1939. unknown books

181743954London: Published by Sherwood Neely and Jones Paternoster-Row; and Simpkin and Marshall Stationers' Court; Sold Also by T. Rogerson Manchester; and by All Booksellers 1817. Original publisher's blue-grey paper-covered boards backed in green paper tan spine labels printed in black. Binding worn and rubbed particularly extremities of Vol I with light sunning and soiling; heel of Vol. I backstrip partially perished; front hinge of Vol I starting; page blocks a bit toned; light foxing to endpapers. Texts clean and unmarked bindings still quite sound overall. Good. Two volume set. 459 1 pp; pp 3 - 480. Illustrated with a total of 7 b/w plates and maps multiple engraved portraits to some plates. Plates published by T. Rogerson. 8vo. 9" x 5-1/2"

Text appears to be the same as that in Baines' History of the Wars of the French Revolution published by Longman Hurst Rees Orme and Brown the same year albeit with a slightly different title and with attribution to Baines. The Longman edition may have been preceded by an edition in parts advertised as "The Cheapest History of the Wars" in the Literary Gazette London: Henry Colburn 1817 and first published on March 1st by Simpkin and Marshall and Sherwood and Co. and sold by T. Rogerson. This edition bears the pronounced error of the "1792" on the title pg of Vol I being printed as "1793" on Vol. II's title page. The work Baines' first -- significant portions of which were later found to have been lifted verbatim from an earlier history by Alexander Stephens -- was wildly popular upon publication and would have likely been in high demand in any form; it was reissued as part of Baines' larger work on George III published in 1820. Uncommon in the trade. Published by Sherwood, Neely, and Jones, Paternoster-Row; and Simpkin and Marshall, Stationers' Court; Sold Also by T. Roger hardcover books

1884001666Odessa: Tip. Tovarishchestva "Bratia Kulberg' 1884. Softcover. First edition n. d. ca 1884; 9 1/2 x 7 1/4; pp. 37; pink wraps faded to dark yellow illustrated with wood engravings; small loss of paper to tips of spine; crease to upper right corner; illustrated with drawings; overall very good condition. In English and Russian. An uncommon survivor of the 19th century the catalog was published strictly for the Russian market of one of the biggest British manufacturers of agricultural machinery and general engineering products from the late 18th until the end of the 20th century. The enterprise was started by Robert Ransome 1753-1830 in the 1780s when he was casting ploughshares in a disused malting in Ipswich and discovered entirely by accident chilled casting - the process of hardening a metal's surface by initiating contact between molten metal and cold metal. By 1851 export trade was initiated including opening a branch establishment in Odessa and by the early 1900s it would become much more important than the home market with more than four-fifths of the threshing machines and steam engines sales being exported abroad. The catalog contains drawings and descriptions on facing pages and both in English and Russian of spare parts for the company's steam threshers. Not in OCLC or in the trade as of January 2015.
