1863531201863. Virch. Arch. path. Anat. 26. - Berlin Verlag von Georg Reimer 1863 8° IV 588 pp. 14 Tafeln Halbledereinband d.Zt. First Edition! Wilhelm Friedrich Kühne "saw a nematode swimming freely within muscle fiber. In its movements the parasite clearly passed through the striated part of the muscle which closed again behind the nematode's tail. He concluded that the fiber was not as solid as most people thought and reasoned that they consisted of a concentrated solution of albumins". 1878401781878. Unters. phys. Inst. Heidelberg 1/3. - Heidelberg Verlag von Carl Winter's Universitätbuchhandlung 1878 8° 34 pp. Rückenbroschur. Rare Offprint! One of Wilhelm Friedrich Kühne's 1837-1900 main areas of interest was digestive physiology. He discovered the protein-cleaving digestive enzyme trypsin which he named in 1867. He observed the presence of an inactive precursor zymogen of the enzyme characterised it with regard to its activity in an alkaline environment and described separation processes. In 1867 he succeeded in isolating trypsin to a large extent. The term "enzyme" was coined by him and replaced the term "ferment" which had been widespread until then. 1867667751867. Virch. Arch. path. Anat. 39. 200515443FRITZ WILLY AND BOB AND THE SUMMER OF '48 Posthumous Press 2005 first edition as new in like pictorial dust-wrapper. 1/85 copies the total print run. This small volume reproduces the text of a letter which has never before been published anywhere about a hitherto unknown occurrence from the world renowned film director Fritz Lang to his very good friend and perhaps equally renowned rocket and space travel enthusiast Willy Ley. It's a most fascinating letter revealing for the first time that George Pal was not Heinlein's first choice as producer on this project and concerns events of the summer of 1948 when then a still maturing science fiction writer named Robert Heinlein visited Fritz Lang in the hopes of stimulating the esteemed film director to produce an accurate and technically correct film of a journey to the moon. What actually transpired between the two men at least from Mr. Lang's point of view makes fascinating reading if not only for the fact that such a meeting took place but also in an attempt to better understand the machinations of that marvelous and enigmatic wonderland of magic and nepotism we call Hollywood. The 85 copies produced have some intentional variations. As with the first Posthumous Press publication which is now available only through the antiquarian market place at a price more than 6 times the original it will not be reprinted. Along with DESTINATION MOON Gregg Press 1979 first edition fine without dust-wrapper as issued. Edited by David Hartwell. Profusely illustrated. Posthumous Press unknown
