A large closed tear to the document on the right side no loss of content. Small splits at the fold intersections.<br /> <br /> Top of page 1 heading "Augusta Feb. 14th 1829". Bot of Wm. Mitchell". Goods purchased include Bushels of Salt Sacks Coffee Small Bag and Nails. Inside on page 3 is a 14 line written note to Capt. Smith discussing his order and the "Merchants and Planters Bank is now good and I think will remain so at least one year." Page 4 is addressed to "Capt Lewis Smith Gwinnett County Geo. W. A. He retreats to his library with a large window that overlooks the land he lives on and finds comfort in visiting old friends within these books. From Theocritus Columella Virgil to Louden Burke Homer and more. He remarks about their sense of good husbandry. Many of these authors were gardeners or farmers or simply wrote on the subject in all its various branches. A very interesting work. Bound in 3/4 tan calf over marbled paper covered boards with matching endpapers all edge marbled rubbing to spine and joints just a bit of toning to page margins previous owner's name in pencil dated 1884. Brown paper-like substance cardboard has adhered to nearly all of exterior rear portion of slipcase. <br /> <br /> An extensive travelogue by the Italian fiction author and includes chapters on Rotterdam Haarlem and Friesland among others.
