Publisher's olive-green soft cloth boards with black lettering. A couple of former owner's inscriptions to the front paste-down and front free end-paper otherwise a VG copy with slightly soft spine tips. Firm hinges. Cloth in nice condition. No foxing. Firmly bound. Complete with 123 pages including faintly-lined tissue pages between each page of text for taking notes as issued. One of the tissue pages has a penned recipe on it. There is a 56-page catalogue of to the rear of Thacker Spink & Co's Publications. An early Indian cookery book compiled anonymously by a "Thirty-Five Years' Resident" and containing recipes and cooking methods on rice curries soups fish vegetables preserves liqueurs and more along with information on medicines perfumes and cosmetics. Originally published as a first edition in 1880 which is exceedingly uncommon. This - the reprint form 1891 - occasionally appears but this is a much nicer copy than normally encountered. About 40 engravings cut from William Thornton's<em> New Complete and Universal History of the City of London</em> 1780s. Two engravings Globe Theatre and St Faith's Church in the crypt of the old St Paul's Cathedral by Wenceslaus Hollar 17th century.</p><p>Compiled in the Victorian era by Josephine Dockar-Drysdale of Wick Hall Radley Oxford. The daughter of Scottish businessman William Dockar who bought the manor in 1850 she was already a widow when she moved into the house in 1882. According to family reports she was 'fearsome' 'an horrendous woman' and 'a terror.' <em>Interview with granddaughter Louise Curtis in Radley History Club.</em> Scrapbooking and sentimental poetry may have been her only pleasures. She looks quite miserable in her portrait by Sir Hubert von Herkomer.</p><p>Green cloth scrapbook with a decorated front cover bookplate of compiler <em>Josephine Dockar-Drysdale</em> on front endpaper 81 maps and engravings mounted on hinged card handwritten poem <em>The Unhappy Lady of Hackney</em> on blue paper many engravings trimmed to edge of image age-toning to pages and endpapers.</p><p>Fascinating and unusual album of London history.</p> hardcover

A few small marks and occasional thumb marks in the margins but generally bright and quite attractive with no tears. Incorporated into the City of Boston in 1912 to become the southernmost neighborhood in the city Hyde Park at this point was a separate city and the northernmost town in Norfolk County. Brown cloth spine and corners over embossed cloth boards - heavily worn at corners well through to the boards - binding shows relatively modest wear and rubbing otherwise. The binding is rubbed and worn and the front cover is quite soiled. Corners bumped. A sound copy. The text is toned but clean. The frontis portrait of Jefferson Davis has a tear at the gutter. An early owner's gift inscription at the top of the title page reads "Bernon Allen. / From his Father Monday January 21st 1895". A couple of pages have edge tears. There is a little damping at the top edge and corner of the pages in issue No. 3 starting at page 33 and running about 20 pages. This does not affect the text. The portrait after page 112 John W. Ellis Governor of North Carolina has a fold at the bottom corner which was improperly trimmed during printing does not affect the image. Three is a tear in the center of the image of the double page illustration Panoramic View of New Orleans1862 on the leaf for pages 185-186. Contains all 12 issues. Each issue has a portrait for the front cover The issues also contain text illustrations and text maps as well as some full or double page illustrations. Noteworthy sections on barbacoa with an earth oven and twelve recipes for the famous Puebla dish mole poblano. <br/><br/>La Cocinera Poblana's sensible mix of national and European cuisine was widely popular and the cookbook originally published in 1877 was reprinted until at least 1929. An image taken from a slight distance of two Sioux Indian teepees. There is some light brush and a couple of fallen trees in the foreground with a small child standing near the logs. An Indian is seated just outside the entrance of one of the teepees. A couple of large trees and some smaller ones are in the background behind the teepees. A clean sharp image.
