Yank combined war news battle stories and photographs evaluations of America's Allies efforts current events the grim realities of front line life social commentary sports entertainment sex pinups cartoons Sad Sack and others home front and a "mail call" section. "Written by soldiers for soldiers" the articles were written by enlisted rank servicemen and made available to U.S servicemen throughout the world. Yank was not sold publicly and remained part of the serviceman's experience. "Yank The Army Weekly was a phenomenon of World War II that provided an insight into the nature of the American soldier that always will be valid. It provided an irreverent and honest account of the sharing suffering and frustrations of 14 million civilians in uniform during World War II." - The best of Yank. The tabloid magazine cost 5 cents and issue and was the most popular newspaper for American soldiers in WWII. Issues of YANK were distributed directly to combat units free of charge along with other vital supplies. <br> Some of the most interesting issues include: Oct. 5 1945. Surrender and occupation of Japan; includes cover photo signing of absolute surrender of Japan by Gen. MacArthur and Gen. Yoshira Umezu aboard the U.S.S. Missouri. Page. 5 includes a photo of Nagasaki after the atomic bomb page 6 shows a fire bombed Tokyo page 8 shows Hiroshima after the total destruction by the atomic bomb; November 23 1945 includes a write-up of baseball star Jackie Robinson. An article of the fire bombing of Tokyo by B-29 bombers. Showing photos of "Tokyo blazing in the worst fire in history. The devastation has left its charred mark on the city and the memories of it's citizens." November 16 1945 includes pictures and articles of POW's in a Jap prison camp; October 26 1945 includes the GI Atom detail at Oak Ridge Tennessee. August 3rd. 1945 includes images of the bombed city of Mannheim Germany. As well as images of scorched and swollen Japanese corpses in Okinawa. August 17th 1945 includes the devastation of occupied Germany. August 31st 1945 includes a detailed firsthand account of a Prisoner of war taken by the Japanese. September 7th 1945 includes images of Victory Day with a large write-up on the Mighty Atom and the atomic bombs science and effects. July 3rd 1945 an article of Japanese kamikaze pilots with photographs of Jap suicide planes hitting American ships. July 6th 1945 images of Normandy invasion one year later. br. La Conferenza di Yalta (4-11 febbraio 1945) è stata uno degli avvenimenti politici più significativi del XX secolo. In quegli otto giorni Roosevelt, Stalin e Churchill si confrontarono per definire diverse questioni di cruciale importanza tra cui la fondazione delle Nazioni Unite, la nuova configurazione della Polonia, il regime di occupazione della Germania, la questione delle riparazioni, le relazioni con la "nuova" Francia di de Gaulle, la partecipazione sovietica alla guerra contro il Giappone, la rinascita democratica dell'Europa. Essa fu una vera e propria pre-conferenza della pace. In quelle giornate non avvenne una "spartizione" dell'Europa, come spesso è stato detto, ma furono raggiunti una serie di compromessi che avrebbero dovuto dar vita a un nuovo sistema internazionale imperniato sul multilateralismo e i princìpi della Carta Atlantica. La successiva Guerra fredda non fu causata dagli accordi che furono presi a Yalta, ma dal mancato rispetto del loro contenuto.
