Václav Jíru (1910-1980) was a Czech photographer and editor In 1940 he was arrested by the Gestapo for membership in the resistance movement, and was sentenced to life imprisonment and jailed until the end of the war. In his book The Sixth Spring, he published his pictures taken shortly after the liberation, described his experience in prison and concentration camps. After the war he became a member of the Association of Czechoslovak Journalists and in 1948 a member of the Union of Czechoslovak Artists. Extremely detailed early report concerning Nazi atrocities, executions, concentrations camps, the extermination of the Lublin ghetto, etc. ; Destruction of the Jewish Population is one section in Documents from Poland. As early as 1940, the Government Delegate alerted London about the persecution of Jews in Poland. Thereupon, the Polish government-in-exile sent a note on this subject to allied governments (May 3, 1941) . Also in 1941, the Polish Ministry of Information in London published a booklet on the persecution of Jews in Poland, entitled Bestiality Unknown in Any Previous Record of History and based on information received from occupied Poland. In January 1942, the Ministry issued another publication, The New German Order in Poland. Both publications created a stir throughout the allied world, which after 1941 could no longer plead ignorance of the persecution of Jews in Poland. Title translates to Toward the historic day of judgment, the Jewish people between curses and redemption Published early in the Holocaust, Ben-Adir argues for the enactment of national introspection and calm rather than territorialism! Ben-Adir (18781942) was writer and Jewish socialist leader, born in Krucha, Belorussia. He was a child prodigy and left for university in Minsk at the age of 16. While there, he was heavily influenced by Jewish socialism. After the First Zionist Congress in 1897, Ben-Adir published an article advocating political Zionism in opposition to the ideology of Ahad Ha-Am. After then Kishinev pogrom of 1903 Ben-Adir published a call for the formation of a Jewish party which would combine the aims of revolutionary socialism with national Jewish aspirations. Ben-Adir was one of the founders and ideologists of the Vozrozhdeniye group, and of its successor of the Sejmists (Jewish Socialist Workers' Party) whose program included Jewish national-political autonomy while envisaging territorial sovereignty as a remote aim. Als Häftling im Konzentrationslager Mauthausen arbeitete Wiesenthal auf dem Todesblock - unbemerkt von den Nazi-Schergen - an Skizzen und Zeichnungen, die einem Ziel dienen sollten: die Weltöffentlichkeit nach dem Ende der Naziherrschaft und der Befreiung der Konzentrationslager darüber zu informieren, was sich hinter deren Mauern und dem Stacheldraht zugetragen hat. Wiesenthal brauchte für seine Arbeiten nicht viel mehr als einen Bleistiftstummel und etwas Papier. Bildfragmente aus Nazi-Magazinen, wie sie in Papierkörben zu finden waren, baute er nach dem Krieg als optische Zitate in seine Collagen ein, und auch die Texte zu den Bildern entstanden erst im Zuge der Vorbereitungen zur Veröffentlichung des vorliegenden Buches.
