On the whole his findings show an abysmal reaction on the part of British newspapers to have little if any sympathy for the victims or an accurate understanding of the events in Germany at the time, with subtle yet recurring displays of anti-semitism, if not an outright open hostility to German-Jewish refugees. A oltre vent'anni dalla pubblicazione dei due principali lavori sulla Resistenza tedesca disponibili in lingua italiana, quello di Claudio Natoli (1989) e quello di Peter Hoffmann (1994), il presente volume si propone di mettere a confronto tra loro diverse generazioni di studiosi italiani e tedeschi. E, per questa via, aspira a compiere un ulteriore passo avanti nella direzione di un'interpretazione che nella Resistenza tedesca veda non solo un capitolo cruciale della storia europea del Novecento, ma anche un tema di straordinaria rilevanza ai fini di una più accurata analisi dei processi di nazificazione della società tedesca tra 1933 e 1945. Sullo sfondo delle più recenti acquisizioni storiografiche, gli autori dei diversi contributi si misurano così con la complessa galassia delle 'Resistenze tedesche', prendendo in esame sia le modalità attive di opposizione politica (Widerstand), sia le modalità passive di opposizione civile al regime nazionalsocialista (Opposition).
