Det meste af tidsskriftets indhold blev leveret af Blicher selv og det er heri at nogle af Blichers store og vigtigste noveller er udkommet så som "Jøderne paa Hald" "Præsten i Vejlbye" "Hosekræmmeren" "Hvor forandret" "Røverstuen" "Sildig Opvaagnen" "Kjeltringeliv" oversættelsen af Goldsmiths "Præsten i Wakefield" samt en lang række andre fortællinger og artikler. Original Nazi anti-resistance poster from occupied Amsterdam announcing that “a number of people have been shot by firing squad or on the spot in recent days for attempting to commit sabotage against the German occupying forces†and warning that “The population of the city of Amsterdam is seriously warned to refrain from anything that endangers public peace and security. Violations of this will be severely punished.†<br> A final sentence notes in all capital letters that “TEARING DOWN OR DAMAGING THIS POSTER IS PUNISHABLE.â€<br> The handwritten date “16-9-44†is legible in the lower right corner; we presume this to be the date that the poster was originally either put up or taken down. <br> Anne Frank's life in Amsterdam was defined by the Nazi occupation and her family's subsequent hiding to evade persecution. The Nazi invasion in 1940 led to the implementation of anti-Jewish laws forcing the Frank family to go into hiding in 1942 to avoid deportation to concentration camps. During this time Anne documented her experiences and thoughts in her diary which later became the world’s defining first-hand account of Jewish life during the Holocaust. <br> Over 80% of Amsterdam’s 79000 Jews were murdered by the Nazis. <br> We have been able to locate no other surviving copies of this rare original Nazi poster from occupied Amsterdam.<br> Paper very slightly age toned as expected but colors and text remain bright and clear. A vertical and horizontal fold probably dating to the date of production remain but with no tears. An amazingly well-preserved original Nazi poster from the occupation of Amsterdam. Roy8vo 36pp. Hardcover in original cream pigskin with an abstract design of blue and black onlays and is lightly soiled with a darker mark on the lower spine being slightly splayed as well for reasons best known to specialist collectors internally this unusual book is comprised of Kelmscott hand-made paper that is clean and unfoxed with the requisite uneven fore-edges. Number 272 of only 300 copies ever produced with a lengthy introduction by D.H Lawrence this "is a story within a story contained within Dostoevsky's 1880 novel The Brothers Karamazov. It is recited by Ivan Karamazov during a conversation with his brother Alexei a novice monk about the possibility of a personal and benevolent God". This important original translation was made by Samuel S. Koteliansky a famous Ukrainian translator of Russian literature into English. Chekov was another who benefitted from his support as well as Dostoevsky and Rozanov amongst others being the manager of the prominent literary journal The Adelphi that published works of Lawrence Katherine Mansfield and even Dylan Thomas in the rarified world of mid-20th century English letters together with Leonard and Virginia Woolf. Old folds with neat professional reinforcement on the verso small chips and tears in the margins mostly at the corners a sound and very good example. Interesting political broadside from a little-known and relatively short-lived progressive party that was interested in printing money in order to buy land for poor people between the towns of Fitchburg and Leominster in order to make it a single city. The dating of the broadside is a little confusing: dated in 1885 but then mentions meetings in 1886 and 1887 the one in 1887 seemingly anticipates a meeting in October of 1887. One statement notes: "Our party point and plan is to improve strengthen and build up the government and remove the burden of taxes from the people and ever stand ready to receive any good move come before them and have women a chance to vote." OCLC locates no copies. unknown

A very good copy with some smudging and light staining in a supplied but sympathetic very good price-clipped dust jacket with slight internal stains. Inscribed by the author: "To Dr. Hugh Stott Taylor With great appreciation for his gracious assistance and with warm personal regards. S.S. Van Dine." The English-born Taylor was a chemist who spent much of his life at Princeton and who in World War II played a prominent role in the American scientific effort directing a number of research projects and contributing to the development of the atomic bomb with his discovery of the most effective catalyst for producing heavy water. He was knighted by both the Queen and the Pope in the same month. A Chair in chemistry is named for him at Princeton. The inscription would seem to indicate that Taylor provided advice to Van Dine about the novel or at least to Willard Huntington Wright as Van Dine was a pseudonym. A Philo Vance novel filmed in 1935 with Paul Lukas as Vance starring opposite Rosalind Russell in one of her earliest roles. Charles Scribner's Sons hardcover

Lederer. In memory of Hopatcong and the Uberbrettl movementthe place and the subject which resulted in our friendship. S.S. Van Dine New York.""Lederer the recipient of this distinctive copy was a close friend of Wright who published his Philo Vance series under the pseudonym of S.S. Van Dine. When Wright was ordered to take a break from overwork Lederer stepped in and told his friend to instead ""devote his life to writing crime novels"" Sanchez Jose Raul Capablanca 276. Lederer offered Wright access to his ""vast collection of detective fiction. Wright then read all of the authors of crime fiction old and new and decided he could do better"" Backer Mystery Movie Series 5-6. As Wright began working on Benson Murder Case the first Philo Vance novel he asked Lederer a member of the prestigious Manhattan Chess Club to arrange a meeting with Alexander Alekhine who became the Fourth World Champion of Chess in 1927. Wright used that meeting to gain background for Philo Vance's talent for solving chess-related murders. In 1933 New Yorker magazine reported that Lederer ""gave S. S.Van Dine the chess and mathematical dope for The Bishop Murder Case.""When Wright began ""crafting his influential theory of detective fiction he drafted several story outlines and submitted three to Maxwell Perkins at Scribner's promptly receiving a contract."" Benson Murder Case launched ""what Haycraft has called the ""Golden Age Van Dine's place in the history of the American detective story is secure and important"" Reilly 1415. ""Philo Vance was an American cousin to Lord Peter Wimsey and forefather of many later detectives"" Hardy BFI Companion to Crime 137. The ""überbrettl movement"" of Wright's inscription highlights a type of literary cabaret popular in Berlin at the turn of the century; ""hopatcong"" likely refers to an area not far from New York City. The two men shared a keen interest in chess and Lake Hopatcong was the center for major chess tournaments in the 1920s including one in 1926 won by the chess champion defeated by Alekhine in 1927. A suspect in The 'Canary' Murder Case the second Philo Vance novel complains of getting ticketed for speeding while ""driving down to Hopatcong.""Text fine lightest edge-wear faint toning to spine. In the publisher's first state dust jacket $2.00 on the front flap two closed tears with archival tissue reinforcement to verso notable wear along bottom edge of front panel wear at tips a very good example. This copy is signed on the front free endpaper by S.S. Dine. The Garden Murder Case was first published in 1935 by Charles Scribner's Sons in New York. The novel was serialized in American Magazine beginning in February 1935 just before its book release. A British edition was issued the same year by Cassell and Company in London. The book was the ninth in the Philo Vance series and was one of the later entries before the character's popularity declined.
