Back hinge repaired, bump to top corner of text block, small moisture stain to top edge of text block. The standard work on the subject with extensive bibliographical listings, and hundreds of color plates (with captions printed on tissue guards) and black & white illustrations of playing cards. Illustrates the history of playing cards beginning with the earliest cards ever found, which come from Provence, France, and date to around 1440. Folio, 12" high X 9" wide, 468 pages.
