This Compendium of Roman History by Velleius is an early edition of Dutch classical scholar Pieter Burman the elder. His history written in a rhetorical style covered the period from the end of the Trojan War to the death of Livia in 29 A.D. and most useful for the period from the death of Julius Caesar in 44 B.C. to the death of Augustus in 14 A.D. "Velleius Paterculus’ short work is the earliest surviving attempt on the part of a post-Augustan historian to survey the history of the res publica from its origins to his own times. In a period from which no other contemporary historical narrative survives in more than meagre fragments Velleius’ work is uniquely important. It is a critical counter to the later accounts of Tacitus Suetonius and Cassius Dio not simply because it offers a different view of Tiberius but because Velleius saw continuity where later authors saw only radical change which destroyed the Republic and put monarchy in its place. A superb meditative character portrait of Judith Anderson in the role of Lavinia Mannon in the Theatre Guild revival of O'Neill's play staged by Philip Moeller which ran for 16 performances in May 1932 at the Alvin Theatre. The Vandamm Studio were the Broadway photographers of record for nearly four decades. While it is not possible to absolutely credit this photo to Florence she specialized in the character portraits while Tommy covered the photographs of staged productions. Vandamm Studio unknown books

Page 2 starts with the news that "There is a great many men in this region gone to California it is thought Maine must suffer a good deal in consequence of so many of her Citizens going to that Country the loss of the men is not all the State is injured by having so much money carried out of it. Since the sufferings of those gone there have been made known & likewise how small the chance of making money enough to fetch them back even many who were calculating to go have given it up at least for the present." The second letter by Keith to affirm to Miss Marcy that she wishes good relations between the two of them expressing appreciation of the "complimentary manner in which you mentioned my son."
