Dean, 1807, 8° (cm. 20,5 x 12) piena pelle coeva, dorso rifatto con maestria, a cinque nervi, con tassello, titoli in oro, e impressioni a secco nei compartimenti, pp. VIII-344 con un ritratto inciso in rame in antiporta e tre tavole incise ripiegate. La prima edizione di quest’opera famosa fu pubblicata a Manchester nel 1769, dove l’A. aveva aperto una scuola di cucina nel suo negozio di dolciumi. Con Hanna Glasse, la Raffald è indubbiamente la più celebre scrittrice inglese di cucina del XVIII secolo, e il suo libro ebbe oltre venti edizioni. La sua carriera lunga e varia iniziò come governante per oltre quindici anni presso Lady Elizabeth Warburton, alla quale il libro è dedicato. Il 1764 segna l'apertura della sua scuola e del suo negozio di dolciumi, mentre nel 1769 rilevò la licenza del Bull's Head nella piazza del mercato di Manchester. Successivamente passò al King's Head a Salford. Entrambe furono famose locande. Fondò anche un gornale, divenne comproprietaria di un altro e compilò la prima guisa di Manchester. This popular and influential work purports to contain 'many unpublished receipts in daily use by private families, collected by a Committee of Ladies'. It was first published in 1858 [Cagle 1045] with a second edition in 1859 [Simon 1595]. The plates depict kitchen implements, trussing and carving. From the Preface we learn that Walsh intended this work as a complement to his 'The English Housekeeper's Book' published in the same year as this edition. EXTREMELY SCARCE, ESPECIALLY IN THIS CONDITION.
