A decent and quite handleable copy entirely in Latin and printed in black and red of this roughly translated "Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary According to the Rite of the Sacred Order of the Friars Preachers" -- a Catholic devotional book devoted to Mary and shorter version of the "Divine Office" with daily prayers scripture psalms hymns and other readings. This particular version is connected to Baltasar de Quiñones 1733-98 a Dominican cleric from Spain named Master of the Order of Preachers 1777-98. In full brown mottled leather binding spine paneled with gilt decorations and gilt lettering on a red morocco label. Gilt ruling on board edges mostly worn away. Text block edges mottled with attached red ribbon bookmark. Moderate shelf and edge wear to boards with rubbing on all edges. Exposed board along the top edge of the rear board and in small areas at the fore corners. Covers show chipping near the board edges and mild soiling. Mild splitting and rubbing to the joints chipping to leather along spine. Text block shows light scuffing on edges dust soiling on top edge. Lightly age toned moderately foxed throughout. Front pastedown bears the bookplate of Joachim Murat who was King of Naples from 1808 to 1815; bookplate is moderately soiled with some surface tearing impacting the illustration. Soiling along the bottom of the front flyleaf; pencil notes on verso. First free endpaper contains handwritten quotes from Voltaire in ink in an unknown hand in which the philosopher criticizes the poetry of Frederick the Great. Title page has had "du Roy de Prusse" written below the title in black ink and the year 1760 the correct year of publication written below the publisher's roman numerals which incorrectly read "MDCCIX" or 1709. Ribbon bookmark is discolored and frayed at the free end. RW consignment. Shelved in Room A.</p> . This is the first officially published widely available edition of Frederick the Great's poetry which was published contemporaneously to an illustrated Quarto edition. Although this is Part I of the History of the Seven Years War it is Vol II of the posthumous works of Frederick spelled Frederic here II King of Prussia. The book is 8 " by 5 1/4" weighs a hair over 1 lb. and is bound in full leather The binding looks a bit worn especially the top of the spine but it is sound. The book interior has a small bit of foxing not enough to be bothersome and occasional stains nothing major. The pages have a built-in wave not the result of water damage for which I see no evidence but perhaps caused by some sort of pressure or perhaps by the paper itself puckering a little as it dried out in the manufacturing process. A large number of pages are spotlessly clean. You will enjoy the look and feel of this book although the binding could certainly use repair. Scanned images on request. . G.G.J. And J. He was a member of the New York State Assembly from 1777 to 1784. He was Deputy Secretary of State under John Morin Scott and Lewis Allaire Scott from 1778 to 1795. In the spring of 1795 Robert Harpur with his 2nd wife Myra and family moved west along the Susquehanna River settling near Belden Brook on his Warren Patent which is near present day Harpursville NY. Harpur College which is a part of Binghamton University was named for him. Arthur Parks 1st. Major New York State Commissioned 1775. This map of St. Peters in Newfoundland was part of the fourth book "The West-India Navigation" published by W. & J. Mount & T. Page in 1751. The Mount family was active in publishing in various manifestations for many generations from the 1650s to 1800. On the back of the page is a beautiful print of two Auks along with a description of the birds and their abundance in this area. These birds were eventually hunted into extinction.<br/><br/> W. & J.
