Every printed recipe suggests the use of "Fleischmann's" yeast along with a handful of suggestions for "Dromedary Brand Golden Dates and Date Nut Butter" and "Royal Baking Powder". Local advertisements adorn both front and flap of every envelope. Hygienic Societies were formed to some extent to limit the spread of communicable diseases to repress prostitution and the promotion of marriage/parenthood. An early devotee of mastication Masticate denticate chump grind and swallow Kitchiner purportedly did most of his own cooking and cleaning. First published in 1817 this extensive guide for the domestic cook took the UK and US by storm making Kitchiner a household name and an inspiration for many later cookbook authors including Mrs. Beeton who lifted a number of her recipes directly from his book. Shaw was a Scottish wine merchant who was almost single-handedly credited with bringing about a reduction in the tax on wine coming into Great Britain and Ireland. Andre Simon called this title "one of the most interesting books we have on the subject." A must have for any serious wine collector.
