With social changes stirring in India the Colonel's directives furnished to local staff to create the Victorian haute cuisine desired by the Anglo-Indian elite illustrate the transformations occurring throughout the British empire. Chapters cover every aspect of the kitchen the storeroom model menus and of course curries. This edition the sixth contains all preceding prefaces illustrating the changes in taste and style during the mid to later 1800's in Anglo-Indian culture. Hinges cracked but holding. This menuwritten by Halliwell a local master of ceremonies and freemason was made to accommodate and service the 3rd and 4th battalions' officers of the West Riding Regiment formerly known as the Duke of Wellington's Regiment. The officers were lodged in the De Grey Rooms neo-classically designed and constructed by architect George Townsend Andrews in the 1840's. The building was originally built to house the Yorkshire Hussar Regiment. The menu describes breakfast luncheon and dinner with served dishes that include tea coffee bacon and eggs kidneys cakes salad soups sweets ices and more. Menu also informs the officers of prices to pay per diem for services and the charges the guests and live-in servants must pay for board and food. The second page lists the sums for individual drinks. Delightful acquisition for a connoisseur of English military history. Light fold marks with some toning. <br/><br/> unknown books

Handwritten notebook with 16 additional daily accounts using "Lake Austin Woolen Mill" letterhead for this cheese factories daily tally. Ledger describes what seems to be a cheese co-op with dividends divided per day report of the season most milk received in one day June 16th - 9195 gallons days cheese was made per year 207 etc. Wells VT rests on the edge of Rutland county and in 1870 the populations total was 430 people. In the early 1800's a dam was built on Lake St. Catherine which enabled industry such as a woolen mill wood working shop and cheese factory to thrive.
