A very attractively bound facsimile edition of the 1864 second edition expanded and considerably revised from the 1863 first edition printed on acid-free paper and retaining the folding plates that appeared in the original. Shaw was a Scottish wine merchant who was almost single-handedly credited with bringing about a reduction in the tax on wine coming into Great Britain and Ireland. Andre Simon called this title "one of the most interesting books we have on the subject." A must have for any serious wine collector. André Galland (né à Sedan (dans les Ardennes) en 1886 et mort en 1965), fils d’un fabricant de draps, a été fait chevalier de la Légion d'honneur en 1933, achèvement d'une vie de dessinateur et d'illustrateur ayant influé sur son époque. Artiste éclectique, il a aussi créé des faïences, des affiches et des lithographies qui sont aujourd'hui des pièces recherchées par les collectionneurs. Bacchus est un Dieu romain. C'est le dieu du vin, de l'ivresse, des débordements, notamment sexuels, ainsi que de la nature. Priape est un de ses compagnons favoris. Les fêtes de Bacchus s'appellent les bacchanales.

En-tête de la Préfecture de Police. Lettre demandant des renseignements sur Jean-Baptiste Frédéric Terreux (1813-1863) au directeur général des douanes où il a travaillé en 1840. Ce Terreux sollicite une place auprès de Caussidière le jour-même où il vient d'être nommé préfet de Police, un révolutionnaire qui aura voulu profiter très rapidement des succès de la révolution. La signature est bien entendu précédée de « Salut et Fraternité ». Rare lettre en tant que préfet de Police. [277]
