Top edge gilt. Printed on laid paper. An architectural gem Parnham House was built during the reign of Elizabeth I and redesigned by John Nash in the early nineteenth century. It was utterly destroyed in 2017 when the owner Michael Treichl was thought to have deliberately set fire to the place. He committed suicide a couple of months later. Free endpapers lightly tanned. This catalog was prepared to accompany an exhibition held at Museum fur Angewandte Kunst in Frankfurt, from October 30, 2009 to January 31, 2010. Andre Charles Boulle (1642- 1732) became the most famous French cabinetmaker and the preeminent artist in the field of marquetry in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Initially discovered by Jean Baptiste Colbert, Boulle spent his life working for the Sun King, Louis XIV, and other French royals. 121 works in the exhibition, about 75 of these are pieces of furniture or decorative arts. Also drawings and paintings. Almost all these works illustrated in color, a few in black & white. Also a section on 20th century furniture influenced by Boulle. This is a fine hardcover copy in a near fine dustjacket and very good slipcase. Text in English and Russian. Introduction in English as well as descriptions of plates at end in English. 195 plates in black & white and color. All the furniture is 18th through late 19th century Russian work. Most photographs show the furniture in room settings, but close-ups of individual pieces. This is a very good hardcover two volume, mixed set with light wear. Volume 1, Tome Premier: A a L, was published in 1912, Bibliotheque d'Art et d'archeologie, as a limited edition of 600 copies. Volume 2, M a Z & Supplement, was published in 1922 by Jean Schemit, Editeur, Paris. Both volumes are bound in light green cloth with gilt titles on the spine. There is a gift inscription on the front endpaper of Volume 1. Otherwise completely clean throughout. Both volumes have the original softcovers bound in. Text in French. Hardcover with jacket in good condition. Second edition, 1980. Plastic-protected jacket is torn, worn and creased on edges. Four centimetre tear on front lower edge of jacket, repaired with tape on inside. Boards, page block and FEP are lightly marked and faded.
