In 1910 he was selected to head a delegation of more than a hundred Indian leaders who met in Victoria to discuss their grievances with the provincial government. In 1913 he became the first Indian admitted to Columbian College and was later ordained a minister in the Methodist church. For 16 years he and his wife were in charge of the Thomas Crosby a famous mission and mercy boat operating on one of the wildest parts of the B.C. coast.
