Born at Tycanol farm in the parish of Pontfaen in 1867. As a boy he was known simply as William Morris and it is not clear when or why he adopted the additional middle name Meredith. He attended the local village school in Cwm Gwaun until the age of twelve and the grammar school in Haverfordwest until he was nearly sixteen. The family were members of Jabez Baptist Chapel in Cwm Gwaun. After finishing school he returned home working on the farm and began preaching. At the age of seventeen he began to preach locally with a view to training for the ministry and was invited to preach at Jabez. He was accepted as a candidate for the ministry preaching in a number of local chapels in order to have his application countersigned by three other ministers. In 1887 was admitted to the Baptist College in Haverfordwest and then University College in Aberystwyth. He subsequently settled in south Pembrokeshire as the minister of Pisgah Baptist Chapel Cresswell Quay and married a local girl Mary Phillips. After three years he left the Baptists and was accepted into the ministry of the Anglican Church leaving Pembrokeshire to spend the rest of his life working in Glamorgan. He was curate at Treherbert from 1895 to 1899 at Llangynwyd from 1899 to 1908 and finally vicar of Clydach Vale where he remained until his death in 1921. He is perhaps best known for his books on violins and violin-making 1904 1920. Chatto & Windus hardcover
