Professor de Filosofia natural marcou o panorama cultural português da segunda metade do século XVIII. e o seu papel como divulgador das ciências ficou demonstrado pelas obras que nos deixou: <em>Os dez volumes da Recreação Filosófica; Os três volumes das Cartas Físico-Matemáticas</em> e vários textos relacionados com o que então se designava por filosofia natural.
