18896941New York: Phillips & Hunt 1889. First edition. 8vo 3 291pp plus 4 ads at rear. Beige textured cloth backed parchment boards stamped in gilt and blind. Some rubbing and soiling corners worn. Clean internally and very good. <br /> <br /> A strange book with a fun title which tells the cautionary tale of a hypochondriac woman how she brings down those around her and finally rids herself of her condition. She does this more or less through an odd combination of mind and faith-healing. Dr. Homer H. Moore was a Methodist clergyman and author of such other titles as Matter Life & Mind: Their Essence Phenomena & Relations examined with Reference to the Nature of Man & the Problem of His Destiny; and The Anatomy of Atheism As Demonstrated in the Light of the Constitution and Laws of Nature. A blurb from the Methodist Review September 1889 states:<br /> <br /> "Dr. Moore. has discovered the secret of much of the sickness that afflicts the human family and offers in this work a prescription which. will result in a cure. through a common-sense belief in one's health with suitable exercise and an abundance of nourishing food. The professional sick. must be treated not as they desire but according to the facts."<br /> <br /> In the author's preface he mentions all the people he may offend with his book including doctors. It does seem to be a text of belief-based medical denial. <br /> <br /> OCLC cites only 4 holdings.<br /> <br /> <br /> . Phillips & Hunt unknown

17203945n.p.: Arnould Bronckart 1720. Hardcover. Very Good. Hardcover. VERY SCARCE OUTSIDE OF LIBRARIES: The Reverend Pere Jacques Coret was a Jesuit priest who lived from 1631-1721. The title translates in English to "The Second Adam Suffering For The First Adam And For All His Descendants. Jesus Dying For The Sins Of Men. Preached In The Form Of Meditations." In French. First edition appears to be from 1692. This is probable 5th Edition. Date of publication not stated but the 4th edition was published in 1709 and the 6th edition in 1731. Final page includes a Privilege from the Society of Jesus dated 1714. Thus publication date was between 1714-1731. A 1.75 inch square cut out of top right corner of title page yet title letters untouched except for a missing "D" at the end of Second. Intricately detailed engraved frontis. Octavo. Rebound with modern black leather spine and cloth covered boards. Five raised bands and gilt title to spine. Title on spine is misprinted as "Le Secon Adam" consistent with missing letter on title page. Laid paper interior rippled from water damage along top margin throughout most of the book. The dampstaining extends to cover more of the page towards the end of the book. The text remains bright. Occasional spots of foxing. 492 pages. FRE/3153. Arnould Bronckart hardcover
