Each volume with a flat spine and original brown leather title label chipped edges: "Blomfield's View Of The World.". Dedication to the verso of each front board: "Robert Henry Cobbold. A gift from his dear Papa February 14th 1828". Also: A small white bookseller's label: "Abbott Printer Bookseller Stationer & Binder Diss." Printed title with engraved vignette and light offsetting from the frontis. Clear English text. Some intermittent foxing and off-setting but overall a clean set. There will be an extra charge to send this heavy set overseas. VG. "Robert Henry Cobbold Rev was born on 14 January 1820 in Eye Suffolk his father Robert was 27 and his mother Emily was 22. He married Caroline Anne Brown in April 1852 in Suffolk. They had nine children in 12 years. He died on 16 September 1893 at the age of 73. In that long life he spent 10 years working for the Church Missionary Society in China. He and his family returned to England wherehe had a number of posts ending with Surrogate and Rural Dean in 1873 and Prebend of Hereford Cathedral in 1885. Active in the community until his death in 1893 he is buried at Ross and commemorated by a window there and by a plaque in Hereford Cathedral." - See Anthony Cobbold 2011 . He was born on 28 October 1778 at North Walsham Norfolk then moved with his parents to Norwich. Bella edizione delle opere di Boccaccio curata dal letterato fiorentino Ignazio Moutier cui si deve tra l'altro l'edizione del 1823 della Cronica di Giovanni Villani. La raccolta comprende tutte le opere in volgare del Boccaccio compresa la Caccia di Diana di cui costituisce la prima edizione a stampa e il testamento dell'autore presentato anche in latino.; il curatore rende conto negli apparati delle scelte ed emendazioni ortografiche operate delle edizioni a stampa esaminate dei manoscritti riscontrati: per la Caccia di Diana ad esempio fino ad allora misconosciuta e mai pubblicata il curatore si avvalse dei codici 1059 1060 e 1066 della Biblioteca Riccardiana e del codice della Biblioteca Laurenziana Pluteo 90 superiore 93. Per il Decamerone il curatore si rifà alla lezione dell'abate Colombo data alle stampe in Parma nel 1812 includendone la prefazione e le note accanto ad altre «del Martinelli del Rolli e alcune del Mannelli»; inclusa anche la Lezione e le Osservazioni di Luigi Fiacchi e il Corbaccio nella lezione del codice Mannelli. La cura filologica fu apprezzata dall'attento Bartolomeo Gamba che nella Serie di testi di lingua scriveva: «Deesi alle diligenti cure d'Ignazio Moutier la pregevolissima raccolta presente in cui le diverse opere dell'archimandrita della italiana letteratura vennero possibilmente emendate col ragguaglio dei codici». L'esemplare qui proposto porta sulle legature le armi della famiglia Strozzi ripetute sui frontespizi con il motto «Expecto»; la biblioteca della casata fu soggette a varie fortune e smembramenti: già nel 1785 all'estinzione del ramo maschile i codici furono donati da Maria Caterina alla Laurenziana e alla Magliabechiana mentre i libri a stampa furono venduti dalle eredi Eleonora e Anna Strozzi «dopo averli offerti in vendita al Governo che si rifiutò di comprarli» Minicucci Roberto Ridolfi mago bibliotecario in La Bibliofilia vol. 99 n. 2 1997. Nell'Ottocento il principe Ferdinando Strozzi ricostituì parte della biblioteca che fu infine definitivamente dispersa negli anni '30 quando il principe Roberto vendette Palazzo Strozzi all'INA: le carte manoscritte attraverso diverse acquisizioni e donazioni passarono sotto la tutela pubblica mentre i libri a stampa furono in parte acquistati da Roberto Ridolfi in parte posti in vendita popolando i cataloghi di Hoepli Olschki De Marinis e altre librerie antiquarie e case d'asta. Quarta istanza del più celebre e longevo almanacco letterario italiano compilato da Valentino Bompiani che ne diventò presto anche editore qui coadiuvato da Enrico Piceni. La copertina è di Bruno Angoletta e le dodici tavole con allegorie dello Zodiaco di Mario e Emanuele Cito di Filomarino; numerose altre illustrazioni ornano il testo tra queste segnaliamo un ritratto di Ardengo Soffici dovuto a Ivo Pannaggi xilografie di Servolini Morbiducci e Cisari le caricature di Guasta i disegni di Mario Vellani Marchi. Molto interessante il «Dizionarietto Rompitascabile degli Editori Italiani compilato da uno dei suddetti» ossia Antonio Formiggini che definisce la sua casa editrice «piccina piccina picciò». Tra gli autori Anton Giulio Bragaglia L’eterna polemica sul teatro degli indipendenti; in calce prosegue l’antologia iniziata nell’Almanacco 1927 con scritti di Filippo Tommaso Marinetti Sibilla Aleramo Corrado Alvaro Ada Negri Massimo Bontempelli Annie Vivanti Giuseppe Prezzolini Amalia Guglielminetti Bruno Corra e altri.
