19636151641963. Unbound. Near Fine. Group of 20 gelatin silver photographs. Each measuring 4½" x 3¼". The back of each photo has light vertical glue stains from once being stored in a photo album while the fronts have old yellowed tape remnants in the margins which fortunately have not affected the central images very good. A collection of vernacular photographs of the historic March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom taken by an attendee. Captured are images of marchers in the streets at various locations around the mall and on the lawn by the Washington Monument but with most taken from quite near the steps of the Lincoln Monument where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his historic "I Have a Dream" speech. A photo of a sign for "Atlantic City NJ" and another taken near a scaffolding clearly places the photographer at the rear of the right hedge row looking up toward the speakers platform.

Among the most notable images are that of Jackie Robinson making his way through the crowd with help of ushers; a close-up photograph of actress Lena Horne sporting a her NAACP side cap; two images of Josephine Baker dressed in her French Resistance uniform and medals standing up in the crowd for photo; and a group of students in front of a "Prince Edward" banner representing Robert Russa Moton High School one of the five litigants combined into the Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court case.

A wonderful collection of vernacular images from one of the defining moment of 20th Century American history. unknown

Chief Luther Standing Bear Oglala Lakota ca. 1868–1939 was an influential writer educator and cultural advocate whose autobiographical works and public activism played a crucial role in challenging early twentieth-century narratives about Native American identity and history. A graduate of the Carlisle Indian Industrial School Standing Bear used his fluency in both Lakota and Euro-American cultures to critique U.S. assimilation policies and to articulate a Lakota-centered understanding of land education and sovereignty. His books—including My People the Sioux 1928 and Land of the Spotted Eagle 1933—offer a rare Indigenous perspective on the profound social political and spiritual disruptions brought by U.S. assimilation policies while also preserving detailed accounts of Lakota customs values and community structures. For this reason Psalm 110 is "the most frequently quoted or referenced psalm in the New Testament".3 Classical Jewish sources in contrast state that the subject of the psalm is either Abraham David or the Jewish Messiah. It quickly became a place of workship but was on private hand up until 1689. By the end of the 17th century the house fell into disrepair and a tavern was opened. The Eisleben magistrate disliked the appearance of the house and decided to have a wooden plaque depicting Luther taken down. Shortly after the building burned down and after a large city fire in 1689 the magistrate forced the owner Marie Friedrich to sell the house to the city by denying her the usual reconstruction loans. 19118839East Aurora NY: The Roycrofters 1911. Near Fine. Folio. 42 consecutive issues bound in 7 volumes with ads and many additions. 1/2 suede over laid-paper covered boards printed in black and red. Untrimmed and often unopened. Starting with Vol.1 April 1908 No.1 and ending with Vol 7 September 1911 No.6. Each bound volume has 6 issues. Each issue has 16-32pp. of text and 20-32pp of ads. Text is printed in two colors usually black and pink on very nice paper with adds appearing on smooth tan or white paper. Text is numbered consecutively. The cover of these large attractive magazines was designed by Dard Hunter and Hubbard himself wrote most of the ads. Alice Hubbard wrote much of the magazine but there were many contributors. Some illustrations by Denslow. These bound volumes have what appears to be additional sheets usually caricatures or jokes as transitions from one issue to another. All covers are present. There is an occasional small edge tear or crease but for the most part it appears that the volumes were made up of new unread issues of the magazine with the exception of Volume 5 where the magazines appear lightly used and have some small tears and creases to some of the covers and pages. Two issues April and May of 1911 have a different style cover pictorial in blue. The bindings are all in very nice condition; the rear endpaper of Volume 5 has a slight rippling but no evidence of moisture. There are pencil marks that appear to be editorial throughout the text sections of all volumes; they are not particuarly distracting. The Roycrofters unknown
