Rear hinge totally broken on the inner side joint still sound; front hinge starting. Leather covers missing large surface chips at fore-edge of front smaller ones to rear cracks at corners with chips & tears at spine extremities. Board corners bumped and frayed. In original embossed and gilt-titled leather marbled endpapers. The original was published in 1890 so this is a pretty early example worthy of repairs. Ships at estimated cost. Pictures upon request. Both are fully bound in leather. They are much worn and scuffed all about. Despite wear along the seams the spines are sure and secure. They have a venerable character and are confident. Within the contents are much worn and there have been attempts at repair. In general however the pages are clear and benign. Thumb tags are sound. Coloured plates are fresh and bright. There are occasional annotations. Both books have a previous owner Henry William Ellis - dated Jan 1907 signature.
