SUPER WORLD WAR II NORTH AFRICA ROYAL AIR FORCE HANDWRITTEN MEMOIR: "This is an exercise book" which it is stated in the first line of the first entry: 22/2/43 9 pages; "I bought this book yesterday and am just taking a few spare moments to jot down some of the happenings and events of the last few months. This book is not intended to be a diary as such as I have found that a day to day record of events becomes monotonous; but rather a medium that permits me to express myself on paper at thise inevitable times in the service when due to ones surroundings and situation there is nothing else to do. I shall also include such events as seem worthy of record and which I may like to preserve for the future in a clear cut form than memory alone provides. So I am now on the threshold of Operational Flying there should be much of interest and amusement which will be of interest and amusement." He then summarizes his Air Force Career and details what I assume is the "happenings of the last few months" as detailed at the beginning of this entry. This includes Scotland and Durban South Africa and Egypt. The rest of the journal is concerned with life and training in Africa and finishes abruptly on 21st July 1943. One week after he makes his first Operational flight over the Mediterranean. 131201Undetermined. very good. Oblong loosely tied album 28 X 40 cm. A total of 87 albumen photos mounted on linean backed stiff grey card boards mostly on both sides. Images for the most part are in excellent conditon with no offsetting and unfaded. very good The album comprises two components with the first 15 images being of Madeira. These images are all 17.5 X 23 CM in size. They are all captioned and signed in the image by the photographer Santos Madeira. The suject matter includes: towns people city views ethnographic agriculture and railways. An interesting selection all in excellent condition and from an unusual place. The second collection of images are all of South Africa. This lot includes a total of 72 images mostly ranging in size from 17.5 X 23 CM to 15 X 20.5 cm. The subject area's include: Cape Town Kimberley Diamond mine operations. Underground mining Native workers at the mine. An image of the de Beers share certificate Johannesburg and area 5 images of the interior of the Sterkfontein Caves and some agricultural scenes. A wonderful album full of interesting large format images in excellent condition. unknown

Altersentsprechend guter Zustand. Die beiden Aufnahmen liegen in größerem Format und auf festem Photopapier vor. Die erste der beiden zeigt eine weite bewachsene Landschaft. Auf der Rückseite liegt eine Beschriftung vor, die wir als "Gelände zwischen Molive - Likomba" ansehen. Sehr wahrscheinlich ist Moliwe in Kamerun damit bezeichnet. Die Photos stammen zudem aus einer privaten Sammlung, welche sich insbesondere auf Kamerun und die 'Gesellschaft Süd-Kamerun' konzentrierte. Die zweite Aufnahme zeigt einen Flussverlauf mit der rückseitigen Beschriftung: "Sanaga mit Stromschnellen". Gemeint ist der in Kamerun längste Fluss Sanaga. Die historischen Aufnahmen stammen sehr wahrscheinlich aus den 1930er Jahren und nicht aus der deutschen Kolonialzeit selbst. Zahlreiche einstige Kolonialfirmen konnten jedoch Jahre nach Verlust der Kolonien Gebiete zurück kaufen. Möglicherweise sind die Photographien auch in diesem Kontext entstanden, im Kontext einer wirtschaftlichen Tätigkeit vor Ort. Beide Aufnahmen gehören definitiv zusammen, die Handschrift (mit Bleistift) ist identisch. Zudem ist auch der Umschlag des früheren Kolonial-Sammlers noch vorhanden und wird beigegeben. Das Photopapier beider Bilder weist die Kennzeichnung "Agfa Brovira" auf, welches erst seit den 1920er Jahren verfügbar war. Historische Bilder mit Bezug zur deutschen Kolonialgeschichte in Kamerun!
