A second edition appeared in 1869 and had first sequel in 1875. In 1879 appeared a final appendix. Written and submitted in reply to a competition held by the Vereeniging tot Verspreiding van Kennis aangaande 's Lands Verdediging. Any contributor had to address six painful questions, eternal issues of worry and of concern for a small land surrounded by mighty neighbours. Even the position and capacity of the elderly and the women were to be considered: could they contribute to the Land's defense in any way beside active fighting? Hoogenboom, First Lieutenant Artillery, was much concerned with the subject. His extended "Beschouwingen over Nederlands gewapende neutraliteit bij een oorlog tusschen andere Mogendheden" was published a few years later. Very rare.

In a very good condition. ~ First edition. The ambitious chronology of events starts in 50 BC with Julius Caesar forcing Batavia to accept Roman rule. However, it soon proceeds with annual leaps up to the 14th century with events examined more thoroughly. From there on, battles and campaigns are described in great detail, very often with a reports on daily developments. It ends on November 1840 with the coronation of Willem II. Includes extended index and a chapter, a sketch of history in a nutshell. Extremely rare.

In a very good condition. ~ First edition. Extremely rare report on the massive Dutch army maneuver near Rhenen in 1911. The Appendices include several very detailed folding maps. Lithographed in brown ink and printed in additional colours they include a general overview map of the army large encampment between Ommeren, Renkum, Veenendaal and Opheusden; and several very large maps, scale 1:50000, which give troops' position and movement on different days of the maneuver. No other copy of this book could be located.
