Issued by his Secretary General José Rafael Revenga this lists 19 articles to which the hospital and all other medical establishments should adhere to. The final pages states that this decree was "Given at my headquarters in Caracas on April 23 1827-17°". Medical services had been largely the responsibility of religious organisations. Bolivar aimed to strip monastic orders of their influence and the present decree can be seen as an example of that development.
This decree was issued just after settling temporarily the rebellion of Jose Antonio Paez in Venezuela. In 1826 Bolivar travelled to Venezuela to subjugate the resistance instigated by General Paez. This was resolved peacefully when Bolivar confirmed Paez's military authority in Venezuela and Bolivar's subsequent stay to celebrate. This in turn caused De Paula Santader to revolt in Bogota urging Bolivar to leave Venezuela in June. He left Paez in charge of Venezuela with the title of jefe superior. Thus when the present decree was issued in April Bolivar was still in Venezuela. José Rafael Revenga was Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Colombia since 1825 and became private secretary of Bolivar when he travelled to Caracas in 1826 making it likely that this was printed in Caracas. The first book was printed in Caracas in 1810.

Condition: slightly spotted more on the last pages. The collection consists of three sets. Each decorated letter and numeral features an elaborate allegorical design. Obvious examples include: Adam & Eve the Three Fates the The Seven Deadly Sins for numerals 2 3 and 7; and a Gallows a Lion and the Devil for the letters G L and D. Most however are not easy to decipher. Contemporary situations and events are also depicted both humorous and allegorical such as Waterloo for W. Garrison-Morton 4214. The era of modern urological surgery began in 1869 when Gustav Simon performed the first carefully planned nephrectomy; his patient was a woman suffering from ureterovaginal fistula caused by a botched ovariotomy. After writing a brief two-page notice of the operation in 1870 see G-M 4213 Simon prepared a detailed illustrated account which he published as Volume I of his Chirurgie der Nieren. This volume contains two lithographed plates the first a schematic drawing of the patient's injury and the second an unusually artistic rendition probably from a photograph of the postoperative patient standing in front of a mirror displaying her surgical scars.

The second volume of Chirurgie der Nieren issued five years after the first deals with the subject of kidney surgery in general discussing operations on both injured and diseased kidneys. This volume over three times as long as its predecessor contains seven plates three in color showing a gunshot injury to the kidney renal calculus and hypertrophy and pre- and post-operative pictures of a case of hydronephrosis successfully cured by surgery. He was active in Paris between 1520 and 1546. Colines used elegant roman and italic types and a Greek type with accents that was superior to its predecessors. His books usually were small in format and superbly crafted.

Colines was associated with the elder Henri Estienne and continued his work after his death in 1520. Colines married widow of Estienne and was in charge of the press until Estienne's son Robert I entered the business in 1526 by which time Colines had set up his own shop nearby. In 1528 he began to use italic type. Colines published many Greek and Latin classics. Although he was not a scholar himself he extended the range of the Estienne firm's learned and scientific works to include the natural sciences cosmology and astrology. He is credited with the design of italic and Greek fonts and of a roman face for St. Augustine's Sylvius 1531 from which the Garamond types were derived. An important imaginary journey to Australia called a "landmark" by Atkinson. Based on a variety of real voyages the descriptions are believable and realistic. The author offers a detailed account of making a camp building a raft. While the book did not range much beyond the confines of the traditional Utopias of the times it did however include "living fossils" giant birds and strange flora that survived from prehistoric eras arguably making it one of the first modern Lost World novels. After being shipwrecked on the continent the narrator and a friend pressed on and developed a farm in "a plentiful fruitful country" until forced to flee by a treacherous woman. 1826246061826. Schweigger's Journal 46. - Halle in der Expedition des Vereins zur Verbreitung von Naturkenntnis 1826 8° XVI 566 pp. 3 Taf. Pappband der Zeit; feines Exemplar. FIRST EDITION of the experimental proof of Ohm's law "the fundamental law of electric circuits". From 1825 onwards Georg Simon Ohm 1789-1854 "delved into the phenomena of galvanic current which were particularly topical and puzzling at the time and searched for quantitative relationships between the quantities "resistance" "voltage" and "amperage". After he had initially been deceived by the then not yet constant current of the chemical batteries he found the correct correlation in 1826 with a thermocouple in which the current is generated by temperature differences in a pure metal conductor circuit which later became known as "Ohm's law". This law was particularly groundbreaking for the development of electrical measurement technology and power current technology. It states - in modern formulation - that the electrical voltage is equal to the product of current intensity and resistance. Ohm himself used it to explain various phenomena in the electric circuit such as the influence of measuring instruments. He also formulated the current branching laws now named after Gustav Kirchhoff 1824-87. In 1827 in a detailed paper he attempted to derive his experimental results in purely theoretical terms as part of an overall concept of electrical conduction. To do this he used the analogy with the heat conduction theory of the Frenchman Joseph Fourier 1768-1830. This led to the long-standing misunderstanding that Ohm had not discovered his law experimentally. " Jürgen Teichmann NDB 19 1999 pp. 489-491 Ohm "made a study of the laws of galvanic currents and while investigating the relative conductivity of metals finally discovered the relation known as 'Ohm's law' which underlies all electrical theory and measurement. The experimental proof of this law was first published in a paper in Schweigger's Journal fur Chemie und Physik vol. xlvi. 1826 under the title of Bestimmung des Gesetzes nach welchem Metalle die Contactelektricität leiten".
