Large oblong double atlas panoramic silver gelatin photograph sized 47 x 8.5 in. caption at lower fore-edge w/in the negative preserved in the original quarter-sawn oak black stained original glass VG image with excellent contrast. This original panoramic photograph approaching a water tank hauling 75 cars of grain for the War effort during World War I captures the efforts of delivering harvested and processed grain from farmers through grain elevators and later delivery to markets for processing and sale. Although originally founded in 1846 to haul anthracite coal from the coal fields of Pennsylvania the Lehigh Valley RR became an essential freight and passenger line through New York in the early 20th-Century and were well known for their significant network of grain elevators and transport logistics. The Class R-1 Steam Locomotives from Baldwin were numbered originally from 4000-4075 many of which were used by Lehigh Valley RR for slow heavy freight haulage. Lehigh Valley Railroad, unknown

The engine has George Dullnig's name on it. Dullnig was prominent German-Texas businessman who attempted to create a railroad to connect the towns of Stockdale to San Antonio. A bound volume containing a collection of ten publications relating to the Western Rail-Road Corporation from the incorporation in 1836 to 1840. The First Annual Report from 1836 is included twice. Bound in contemporary original three quarter leather which is moderately to heavily worn with the front board nearly detached. There is minor to moderate foxing and the final half of the text is lightly stained at the top corner. The 1836-37 Reports of the Engineers is complete with two fold-out maps which were printed on very thin onion-skin paper. These two maps have been detached and are misfolded with minor tearing as well as some foxing. A ready-made collection of the founding documents of this railroad company which starts in Boston winding its way across the state where it enters New York State at West Stockbridge. The main map shows central London including the site of the 1908 Franco-British Exhibition; an inset shows the line between Harrow and the Mets northern outpost at Verney Junction and a fare table is included bottom right. A blue and red line shows the boundary for the free collection and delivery of parcels and passengers luggage which could be handed in rather than carried on crowded trains. The text on the verso gives information about tickets and goods traffic and carries an advertisement for the west end furniture supplier Oetzmann & Co. Map unknown

A useful and informative pocket guide for employees of the Mexican National Railroad in the late-19th century. The work is printed in both English and Spanish and includes sections on general rules time tables signal rules train rules with separate sections detailing regulations governing "movement of trains by telegraphic order" numerous templates for train orders and concludes with a section of seventeen paginated "Diagrams Illustrating Manner of Using Signals According to the Standard Code of Train Rules. As Adopted by the General Time Convention. Approved July 15 1889." The latter illustrates the types colors and positioning of signal flags and lights depending on the movement of the train and time of day. We could locate no copies of this work in OCLC. 1519106700<p>Printed poster on thin card stock. 30.5x41.5 cm 12x16". Also includes a 6" x 10" flyer. Poster with vertical crease along which is an archival tape repair/reinforcement; flyer trimmed slightly bowed normal aging laid down on cloth backing. On August 12 1939 the City of San Francisco train derailed outside of Harney Nevada United States killing 24 and injuring 121 passengers and crew. While other train wrecks were deadlier this one was especially horriffic because was caused by sabotage of the tracks. Despite a manhunt reward offers including $5000 from the Southern Pacific and years of investigation by the Southern Pacific Railroad the case remains unsolved to this day. Accompanied by a handbill version of the poster.</p>

The Chicago Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway owns and operates over 6600 miles of thoroughly equipped road in Illinois Wisconsin Iowa Minnesota South Dakota North Dakota Missouri and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Brule County South Dakota is situated in the heart of the famous Missouri River Valley being bounded on the west by the Missouri River on the south by Charles Mix County on the east by Aurora County and on the north by Buffalo County. Jerauld County joins Brule on the northeast corner. Views of farms cattle and sheep ranches and Chamberlain a town in the county. They promote plenty of water for farming as sourced by the Missouri River and numerous artesian wells that are scattered over the county. In addition to livestock production there is much wheat corn oats dairy products orchards etc. due to the fertile ground water climate and availability to markets. In addition to Chamberlain the county seat the towns of Pukwanaand Kimball are touted as being good places to live. Covers lightly soiled a faint vertical crease a tiny old water spot to the bottom margins of the front cover and the first page a tiny bit of penciled under lining else a very good copy. A remarkable folio containing 17 large-scale draughtsman�s ink drawings of the Great Western Railway line between Tilehurst and Didcot England covering a 17-mile stretch at the extraordinary scale of 25 inches to the mile. Executed with meticulous precision these plans depict track layouts associated fields parish boundaries stations bridges and buildings as it passes the Thames River. Each sheet bears the stamp �Great Western Railway 25165 Engineers� Office Paddington� dated 1882 and initialled. The sequence begins with Sheet No. 37: �Parish of Tilehurst / Parish of St. Mary�s Reading� and concludes with Sheet No. 53: �Parish of Didcot / Parish of East Hagborne.� Of particular interest are the contemporary red ink annotations consisting of queries or requests for clarification likely in the hand of a senior engineer. These marginalia provide a rare insight into the working methods and exacting standards of the period. It forms an invaluable record of Victorian railway engineering practice. Beyond their technical value the drawings possess a striking aesthetic quality exemplifying the artistry of the 19th-century draughtsman.
