Stiff brown card covers cord-bound with letter-press title in brown to upper cover oblong 4to 10 inches tall pp. 27 leaves - 24 with duo-tone images tipped-in recto; title page and 2 leaves of text "A Descriptive Index of Views" at rear also printed recto. Complete with all eighteen tipped-in Albertype duo-tone images showing scenes en route via ship rail and foot. Includes a little seen image by Norman Wilkinson "Empress of Russia in Japanese Waters" and an unusual early mountaineering photo "Climbing the Great Asulkan Glacier". Small stains to cover short closed tears to yapp edges and a small chip to foot of spine. OCLC locates only two copies both institutionally held at U of A and Queens University Library. Near Fine. 6.75" x 9.75" Five bi-fold luncheon menus from the CP steamship Empress of Britain with colour photos and description of Canadian hotels and landmarks: The Canadian Chateau Frontenac Banff Springs Hotel Ski High in the Canadian Rockies and Mount Eisenhower. Menus dated between August 29 and September 2 1959 though printed dates range from 1957-1959. Some light soiling else fine. Canadian Pacific unknown

An unusual CP item from an era when CP were struggling unsuccessfully to keep their passenger rail traffic a viable business model with the proliferation of the automobile. Cloth backed paper over boards with paste-on label to upper board narrow folio 12-3/4 inches tall pp. 59-300 leaves lined and numbered in blue ink at top corner of both sides. Volume has some wear soil and stains to front cover lacks ffep and pp. 1-58 excised prior to our acquistion quite likely because they contained complaints! Date taken from the CP logo printed on the front cover label which was used by CP from 1960-1968 and from the printed date "6-61" in the upper right corner. Ref. Choko p. 372. After being lured out of retirement and joining the Monte Calvo Opera Company based in San Francisco California the opera diva is killed by a knitting needle at Lucifer’s Pride a half-finished castle in the Columbia River Gorge. Meyers who was an avid singer opera aficionado modeled his murdered soprano after the great Luisa Tetrazzini 1871-1940 and the “Lucifer’s Pride†castle built for her as a would-be wedding present on the famed Maryhill Museum dedicated in 1926 by Queen Marie of Romania and opened in 1940. First edition of this nicely printed brochure chronicling the points of interest along the Shasta Route from Portland to Los Angeles; Sunset Route from San Francisco to New York via the American Southwest and New Orleans; Golden State Route from Chicago to Los Angeles and finally the Overland Route Lake Tahoe Line from San Francisco through Ogden and onto Chicago.
